Totally Misread This One

I assumed that it was a convenience store when I read the context of the OP, but a tout in Northern Ireland during the Troubles was an informer.
Bit of a stretch by the OP to think that we should maybe know of Tout’s locations, maybe if it had been a Tesco, we’d have known what he was talking about.
SHE!!

Nah, that's a snitch - hence the old adage, that you alluded to, of snitches getting stitches and ending up in ditches. A tout is basically a spiv.

A spiv I thought, was someone who could get you black market stuff during WW2, maybe they were also called touts, but if they were, I was unaware of that.

Is a tout not a purveyor of rare tickets at exoorrrrbitant prices?

They can be that too, ticket touts, scalpers in the U.S.

Look at me I can use Google -

With apologies to Gus Kahn and Isham Jones, it “had to be you” SGF.

My Grandad Poole was a Spiv during WWII.
We only found out a few years ago he'd been to prison before WWII and prison after WWII, I thought he was a war hero who flew planes but he had been sent to a small RAF base in North Wales as a punishment and to be a 'gofor'.
He'd also got 6 kids by 5 women.
