The public funding is for infrastructure around the stadium i.e. a tube station etc. That really is that outrageous. If they were asking for direct contribution for the stadium I'd be more upset.

Arsenal applied for and received the same funding.

Transport for London wanted to charge Spurs £300 million to build and maintain a new Victoria line tube station at Northumberland Park. A ridiculous sum of money when you consider that it's overground (so no tunnels required) and there's already a tube depot at the location (so very little new track required either).

The surrounding transport infrastructure would need to be upgraded to handle the extra fans travelling to games. The government would get it's money back any way from the extra use of the services.

MW

They won't see much of it because the transport companies are privately owned. I don't see why public money should be wasted supporting the travel arrangements of a few fans.

So they are both challenging the Olympic stadium and asking for funding to redevelope, while its likely a move to get someone to agree to some redevelopement funds if they drop the stadium legal crap it just comes across as Spurs attempts to try everything, like their bid for almost every half decent striker in Europe in Jan.

Are you sure Arsenal got money for helping redevelope the local area, I thought Arsenal paid for things like station upgrades as a way to get the stadium plan approved.

The former mayor [Ken Livingstone] was closely involved with the development of Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium and negotiated reduced social housing when the cost of the initial scheme became unviable.

Don't see what the issue is tbh. Tottenham is a poor area and Spurs are the best thing to happen to it. Why should it be purely down to a football team to fund regenerating the area, isn't that what public funding is for?

Not surprising to be honest. Harringey will have added millions of pounds of local area changes that spurs will be expected to pay or they won't give planning permission. Harringey is a rubbish area and tottenham give a big proportion of the areas income, so they want to make spurs pay for as much regeneration of the area as they possibly can, or they won't give permission for the stadium rebuild.

Not really surprising there was talk of a move away from the area to be honest....

That doesn't say Arsenal received funding at all, its ambiguous at best and likely refers to negotiating that some of our flats were designed to be cheap, like houses for teachers and the like(forget what that scheme is called).

AFAIK we received little to no funding and had to buy out and move the properties already on the site, neither of which were cheap to move.

Arsenal definately paid out at least 7.5mil for upgrades to the local stations though fairly sure the amounts increased later on.

Things that can help build up the local area are one thing, the ability to bring in 60k screaming fans in one go is pretty exclusive to the stadium, as with Highbury/Emirates, other than the football theres zero other reason for stations/roads/public transport that can put 60k people in the stadium in such a short space of time, therefore we helped pay to make the station work with those kinds of numbers...... as should Spurs.

Benefits everyone.. maybe just maybe get extra funding, only useful for Spurs to make profits, they should pay for it, like we did.
