i've finnished building my comp which has a 36gb raptor and 250gb seagate and im trying to install windows media center 2005 and near the start of the setup i get a error saying

"An unexpected error (769) occured at line 5182 in d:/xpsprtm/base/boot/setup/setup.c..

Press any key to contine"

then it goes onto say

"Setup either detected multiple disks in your machine that are indisthinguishable or detected raw disk(s). Setup has corrected the problem, but a reboot is required

Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."

whats a raw disk? and shall i just take my seagate out then put it back in later once i've installed windows? will that work?

A RAW disk is an unformatted disk. Have you left any of your disk unformatted?

yeah, just pluged them in, aint done nothing to them.

you can probably tell but im a complete noob sorry and this is my first build.

Ok, you will need to format the disks before you can install Windows. During the setup you will have the option to select which drive you want to install Windows on. On the next screen you will have several formatting options: Quick Format NFTS, Full Format NTFS etc... I would select Full Format NTFS for a fresh drive. You will only need to do this for the drive you are installing Windows on, you can format the other drive in Windows.

EDIT: Have a look at this, this should help you out. :) Step 6 is where you get the formatting options. http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp

once i insert the cd (1 of 2) it will ask me to press F6 if i want to install a raid driver ect, then it goes on to the bit where it says setup is loading files (********)

then it loads aload of them, then i get that error, so i dont get the chance to choose any format options, have i missed something before i should install windows?

EDIT: its step 2 that i get the error on in that link.

Ok you need to press F6 to install and 3rd Party, SCSI or RAID drivers. You should have these driver on Floppy or CD, you will them be asked to select the driver to install once windows has delt with its own.

i didnt get any driver cd's with either hard drive as i got the oem versions and im running them though sata 2 connections so that wouldnt need them drivers would it?

dude, please use normal font, dont know why, but it bugs the hell out of me :o

what motherboard / sata chipset are you using?

can get you a direct download link to make a floppy with the driver

Erm... You should still get drivers if it's OEM. What motherboard do you have? You will be able to download the drivers for you SATA controller.

hmm slight problem, i didnt buy a floppy drive as i didnt think i'd need it, i can just hack one out of my old computer though, also i didnt think raid was nessersary, i thought it was optional.

no you cant use a cd

you can use nlite

www.nliteos.com to integrate the driver

extract the driver to say C:\driver\ and make sure its got the txtsetup.oem file inthere too (find another driver if it doesn't have one)

copy xpdisc to C:\xpcd

run nlite on the xpcd folder, and choose integrate driver, then use txtsetup and choose the os when doing the driver part..

ok that prog looked to complicated but i've now got a floppy drive hooked up and some spare floppys, how do i make a driver disk using the download? what bit do i copy?

its got a prog in the download that can make the disc but when i made the disc and tried it, it said "ntldr is missing"

well it looks like ntldr but can quite see the first letter as its slightly off the screen atm

Ok, do not put the floppy in until it asks. Your PC is trying to boot from the floppy which is why you are getting ntldr is missing.
