Touchpad scrolling lag in IE on Dell Laptop

I've got this annoying problem with the touchpad built into my XPS studio 16.

In internet explorer if i use the right side of the touchpad or the 2finger multitouch scroll gesture to scroll down a web page theres this horrible lag where the actual scrolling of the web page lags behind the finger movement- its driving me crazy.
Its almost as if the page will only scroll at a set max speed- where as with a mouse attached i can scroll really fast using the wheel if i want and the page will scroll just as fast.

Any ideas?

Got all the correct drivers installed for it? Can you change track speed in the touchpad drive menu? (My brothers Inspiron 1545 allows this when the drivers are installed).

Also, does it lag in Firefox too?

dont have firefox- i do use maxthon but thats built on IE, problem is the same in maxthon.

I've got the proper dell touchpad settings dialog, i can change the speed of scrolling. The bar doesnt seem to have a very large range of speeds though.

I guess the problem is that I want the screen to scroll faster when i move my finger faster on the touchpad not always at a constant speed which is seemingly what happens- this works with a mouse wheel; roll it faster and you scroll faster, where as with the touchpad its like it only scrolls at one set speed. If i move quickly its as if it thinks I want to move further, so i stop moving my finger when i want to stop- but the screen keeps moving up or down for a bit afterwards.

I dont know why this is so hard to explain, i've just read that back and i'll be amazed if anyone actually understands WTF i'm talking about.

Ok, looked into it a bit more and discovered something.

If I set 'Number of lines to scroll at once' under the 'wheel' section of the mouse settings to something like 3 or 4 the problem is greatly reduced- theres little or no noticable lag. It was set to 1.

The reason it was set to 1 is that when looking at folders it bugs me to scroll more than one line at a time, i find i miss stuff.

The stupid thing is this setting shouldnt even effect how the touchpad works; its for external mice- it doesnt even stop the touchpad from scrolling a line at a time in an explorer window, its only when i plug in an external mouse that it actually scrolls more than one line at a time!! Go figure!

Any suggestions?

The touchpad scrolling emulates the mousewheel itself so you won't be bypassing the scroll by x lines setting unfortunately - it's the same on all laptops with touchpad scrolling!

You'd need a dedicated scrollpad to get around it really.
