Looking for opinions and recommendations from people who have Towel Radiators,

I'm torn between 2 options, put an electric one on the wall next to the bath. Or replace the existing radiator with a towel radiator and hook it up to the existing pipes...

Is either more efficient? I know you can put an element in most and there's not a lot of variation in cost...

Opinions?

Fitted plenty plumbed in as the only radiator in a room, never found a need for an electric one. Unless you have a huuuge bathroom, replacing the existing one should be fine.

Or option 3, dual fuel, which can be operated either with heating or independently of heating using an electric element. The advantage of this is that you don't need to use the central heating to heat your towels in the summer.

This is what I'd go for. Otherwise, it sort of depends on what (if any) the other source of ambient heat is in your bathroom. Our bathroom is colder than I'd like even with quite a large plumbed towel heater.

If your using a towel rad for pure heat output to heat a bathroom then you will struggle. The chrome type ones are generally low BTUs and also having towels on them stops the radiating of he heat. If it's a bigger bathroom have it in addition to a normal convector radiator.

Hmm, these aren't as expensive as I thought! Would be great to have one in our flat.

Would need to run the electrics down from the loft though. There's a spare plug up there which is used for the bathroom's skylight, I'm assuming that would be suitable?

For something like this, is it easy enough to wire up to a plug?

Liking this idea, didn't know it was an option...

Can you do this with all of them or only select models?

does it matter if you have a low pressure/mavity fed water system? just wondered do they work just the same (plumbed in towel radiator)

We have both options in one unit. We have oil central heating which our towel rad is connected to but we also bought a heating element for it so during the day we have a timer that comes on and dries the towels so they don't sit there damp all day.

It heats the bathroom perfectly which is around 12' x 10' in size (bathroom, not rad!)

I personally think it's cheaper doing it that way as you can control when it comes on when your heating isn't on but comes on when other rads do as well. Best of both worlds IMO.

Option 3:

Plumb in a towel rad in addition to the current normal rad. Best of both worlds.

That's what I'd do. Towel rads don't have the efficiency or control of a normal rad, they're great for keeping your towel warm but rubbish for controlling your bathroom temperature.

Towel Rad here. Brilliant in the Winter. Haven't been in the house for a Summer yet but they've always dried quickly on rads so a towel rad is is more aeriated would be even better.

Look at 'Phoenix Athena Stainless Steel Towel Rails' they come with a 20 year warranty, other in range are 10 years if my memory is correct, very reasonably priced, found them very good to use.

Went and ordered one recently through these guys...

Not impressed. Listed on site and at order as 3 days delivery. Email telling me it'll take over a month now...

Checked site and it still says 3 days. Tried to order one again and it told me it's in stock.

I ordered a rad from these guys and whilst it was delivered quickly they forgot to send the valves I ordered.

I called them up straight away and spoke to a helpful chap who was sympathetic and said I just needed to email a specific address and they would send them out.

After speaking to him I discovered one of the chrome caps that covered the mounting screws was missing and added that to my email as well. Then followed an email exchange where I was told I must be mistaken because the valves were definitely in the package (they weren't).

Eventually they relented and issued me with a tracking number for another package. It turned up and only contained 2 chrome mounting caps.

In the end I had to go to B&Q and issue a paypal chargeback. In addition the towel rail they sent was full of rubbish (looked like someone had stuffed old sandpaper in it). Wouldn't use these guys again.

Spoke to them today and asked to switch it for an item that they do have in stock (the same rad in chrome) and they can't even do that! I have to put through another full order!
