After being helped by you guys last night i was decided to get a 6950 toxic edition for £230 mainly because I have heard that it has a good chance of becoming a 6970 just by flicking the switch. After receiving lots of false information about the card by the people selling it it persuade me to spend more and get a 570 or actual 6970 (People at overclockers forums told me what they were saying was false, thanks guys :)) But before I bought it i asked if the card had the 6970 bios on the second switch position and they sent this to me

'the toxic card is a factory overclocked card that comes with the switch, the switch doesnt just automatically turn it in to a 6970 either, it switches between two bios' and you can overclock it using one of the bois'. it doesnt let you use the locked shaders either as cards now come with on die fuses.

the point in this card is you can put it in your system and it be faster than a 6950 straight off.'

Now since you guys have already proved to know more than them, can you tell me how much of that is true and is it worth getting the toxic for 6970?

Thanks for any help you can give me!

Well my Toxic had the switch and unlocked the 6970 shaders then ive clocked to 900 and 1375. I only brought this 2 weeks ago i cant see it being much different. You honestly wouldnt be disapointed with a stock 6950 anyways its a beastly card.

Look at this thread about successful Toxic unlocking:

Did Your Toxic Make The Grade --> 6970

It doesn't matter where you buy them from(if you can still find one), if it is sold as the Sapphire 6950 Toxic it 100% does have the unlocked shader bios already flashed to the 2nd bios position.

But remember as stated in your other thread it is not guaranteed to work but most will!

Thanks Tommybhoy you've been really helpful!
Just making sure it is the toxic that has the switch and everything etx, this is what they're selling

The SAPPHIRE HD 6950 TOXIC Edition ships with clock speeds of 880MHz for the core and 1300 MHz (5.2 Gb/sec effective) for the memory, making it the fastest production HD 6950 on the market. This has been achieved by building the card on a high specification PCB with digital VRMs for excellent power regulation and 8 + 6 pin power connectors. It has a high performance cooler featuring a Vapor Chamber, blower fan and a new perforated backplate to increase airflow out of the system case.

specs
Bus Standard: PCIe 2.1
Core Clock (MHz): 880
Stream Processors: 1408
Memory:
Generation: GDDR5
Capacity (MB): 2048
Clock (MHz): 5200
Bandwidth (GB/s): 21.6
Interface: 256-bit

1x HDMI
2x DVI

CrossFireX Ready: Quad
3D Ready: Yes

Power Input: 1x 6-Pin PCIe; 1x 8-Pin PCIe

I don't know why they're giving so much false information but this is the card they're selling, so should i get it? its £230 and i haven't seen any others for that price unless i risk ebay........

I received my toxic 6950 from overclockers last week, put it in and checked with gpu-z 1408 shaders. I then turned off and flipped the switch, rebooted and et-voila 1536 shaders! Simples! Now to overclock the core & memory :)

It's your money.

I would if I was in the market for a 2GB card.

Be quick if you want one, there is hardly any left anywhere!

Take into account though, that there may well be new midrange cards inbound in the next 4-6 weeks that will offer similar performance for slightly less cash.

Nobody knows for sure when the Amd 7 series/Nvidia 6 Series is going to come out, so it may also be next year before they are out and not 4-6 weeks.

Ok thanks again, ill probably go and pay £20 pound extra and get it from overlcockers, they,ve got 8 left, don't want to give it to the other company after how clueless they are regarding graphics cards :P

From what you've said, I think it's more a case of they just want you to spend more cash, or they can't be bothered with you DSR'ing it back to them if the shaders don't unlock.

At £230 I'd buy it, at £259, no chance, but as I said it's your money.

This one has been unlocked by a few guys here and it's £225:

Or this one that's got a great cooler plus Dirt 3 and Deus EX free for £222:

The HIS one is probably the one I would buy from OC's right now, good cooler and 2 free games is much better value than the Toxic imo.

I don't think it has the dual bios switch so attempting a bios flash will be very risky, if it goes wrong, you would need another gpu in your system to flash it back to normal.

Well spotted Surveyor, but it's stated on the advert at the top of this page^

'Exclusive to overclockers UK Dirt 3 & Deus EX free!'

I think OC would have to honour you the games or pay for 2 way postage and full refund while that adverts there.

That you would have to discuss with OcUK.

Not so long ago, when virtually all the HD 69xx cards came with DiRT3/Deus Ex games, it was specifically stated in the product description.

I would say that the banner at the top of the page is out of date.

Thanks again Tommybhoy! But the games don't bother me as much its more about getting a good card for as little as possible the toxic here is 259 but if your lucky and it unlocks to a 6970 it would be good value still, heres the one i was looking at the only difference i can find is the model number, not sure if it makes any difference :S

link removed

You need to remove that link.

It's against forum rules and will get you into trouble.

It'l be the same one, but as Surveyor said, your looking at a ban or flung out of the forum if you don't remove the link.
