Whats peoples opinions of these

got one today as a courtsey car, celica is havin some work done on it

my thoughts so far

  • not to bad around town, under 40mph
  • gearbox is useless, feels like your stirring yoghurt
  • power steering removes almost all the feeling of whats going on with the wheels
  • body roll is terrible, perhaps because of its shopping cart like design
  • above 50mph theres no grunt at all, expected because of the engine size but no good at all if you have to travel on A roads or motorways
  • i was verging on scared when following the curves on the road on my way to work, between the body roll and feeling like theres no grip
  • where the hell is the rev counter, i've no idea of im revving the nuts off it or changing way too early

This is practically a new car and worth 7k but i struggle to see how even a new driver with insurance worries could bring themselves to buy one, i owned a 1ltr corsa a few years ago and comparitively id recommend the corsa. it suffered some of the same ills but id much rather be driving that at 70mph to work, had better cheap plastic trim and better speakers and the body roll was nowhere near as bad

thumbs down on the aygo for me

Haven't driven one but sat in one (albeit the C1, identical car) at the motorshow

Awful interior. Cramped, cheap, tacky. The seats had no support and the clutch and gearbox are lifeless. I continually hit my knee against the centre console which flexed and started to come off. The heater controls were particuarly nasty

Not at all impressed - a big

from me too

Apparently the 1007, C1 and aygo are all made in the same place and based on the same platform....

I havent driven one but i do like the look of the aygo, more practical than a smat fortwo though by the looks of it.

I know a girl who has just bought one, well i suspect had it bought for her (which annoys me, but thats another thread :p). She was trying to tell me how good it was and all that. I just nod and agree because it's not worth the hassle of free/used, and thats completely ignoring its a pretty dismal new car at that!

But as long as she's happy i suppose. :shurgs:

you shouldnt really need a rev counter to tell when to change, the engine note can tell from the engine note, I only look at the rev counter in my car every now and again.

my point on that is that im just guessing, i know its only a 1ltr but id still like to be able to learn the best place to shift if i were gonna drive it all the time, id rather not learn the notes of the engine by bouncing off the limiter to see how far it goes then work my way down :p its not a quiet engine to start with anyway being a 3 stroke

i noticed in this that i had to stay in 1st/2nd longer than im used too, i was taught 1st should be for setting off then get straight in 2nd once moving, in the aygo it just felt like it was labouring too much if i changed up, rev meter would have been helpful, i think as a car targetted at new drivers it should definately have one and take any guesswork out knowing if your in the right gear for the speed your doing

I hope you mean 3 cylinder? I'm struggling to work out how 3 stroke would work .

With regard to the rev counter, yes it would be nice, but i'm sure many can live without it. I'm very inexperienced as a driver, i'll be the first to admit it, but engine notes aren't that hard to go by.

Perhap the car is well sealed and one cant hear the note? :o lol
True then the designers need stoning. Still i wouldnt really want to have to listen to a 1 litre engine. Also since i think its aimed at women i doubt they would too. Its not the greatest idea in the world. But i doubt a lot of the women who would buy such a car would care for a rev counter.

ive got a feeling that you were prolly ragging the car taking it outside of its design for being a car.

No they aren't. You're thinking of the 107. The 1007 is a different car altogether.

Exactly.

Like it or not you will be making comparisons to your Celica which is a completely different kettle of fish.

As for the lack of tacho, tbh I could live without mine. Just think back in the mists of time very few cars had them unless they were proper sports cars.
