I don't know what other peoples quotes are like but at 20 0NCB I managed to get a quote for <2k fully comp on a GT4 with non standard wheels without looking too hard.. :D
Very reasonable given it's performance IMO

Although you will get quoted ridiculous figures such at 5k or a plain and blunt 'No'. Even got rung up asking how 7k sounded for 3rd party fire and theft.. How I LOL'd and explained I had just been quoted £1950 fully comp

Edit: I wouldn't buy an Import, I would find a clean UK spec without mods (maybe just cheese blocks :D) as many insurers will RAPE you if you mention 'import' making the small list of reasonable insurers even smaller!

edit 2: Daam! Who stole all the Clean Uk gt4 from the classifieds.. There were about 4 good examples a few months ago.. And I can't find one today.

I'm thinking I could go up to £2000 at a push so hopefully will be able to get something half decent

But yeah, as nice as GT4's are.. its a no no for now
 
£2000 will easily get you a good condition UK car. 96+ versions are facelift which gets you a slightly more modern front bumper, sideskirts and 3 post spoiler.

Pre-facelift doesnt have the sideskirts but has the 2 post spoiler which is compatible with the GT4 raiser blocks if you fancy those at some point :)
