Track car project - including diary of a track n00b

I reckon with a bit of honing you could win that series. Any way you can make the car lighter without spending loads of money?!!!

There is that website www.zombiewings.com that do anypart you want in Carbon Fibre, Kevlar, Or fibre glass.
And because kaiowas is part of Twobrutal he should be able to get the parts cheaper.
The guy making them isnt after a big profit either which makes them cheaper.
If you go all out you can apparently from what ive heard get the weight down to about 850kgs if you try hard enough:p

That car is awesome, as is his Skyline that he blew the turbos on at pod a month back!

1UZs are Awsome engines.

He should push more bhp out if it though TBH:D

I do like his Supra :) It looked good at the weekend.

There are more bits to remove on Humph yet, and then the carbon plans will be done hopefully over the Winter, funds permitting. I'd love Phil to have a go in one of the faster cars to see what he could do, although it's nice to be up there higher than some more powerful cars.

Although there's still a bit more to do with the weight reduction it'll never be enough to close the gap significantly on the really quick guys at the front, they've got such a big power advantage that if I was beating them it'd be down to their own incompetence (Which won't happen because they can all drive a bit). If I really want to compete with them I'm going to need to get myself a mk1.5 conversion which will give me the potential to compete on power whilst still hopefully remaining light and nimble however the budget won't stretch that far at the moment.

This winters priority is to tidy up the bodywork as well as doing a bit of preservation to ensure the shell will last a few years, combined with further weight reduction (Aiming for Sunroof removal, plastic windows and whatever lightweight panels I can afford) as well as dropping some nice suspension bits on there. Then next season I can hopefully see of any newcomers in Class D before thinking about whether to make the step up to the higher power classes.

Zip are you on commision? That's the third time you've pimped Niks stuff in this thread ;)

I'm not sure what his plans are really, it's his daily driver but I spoke to him earlier when I was down there and he's on about getting the suspension set up for track use instead of the road set up he currently has.
He showed me an absolutely stunning Altezza GT car they're building...I can't wait for it to be finished!

Nope, Maybe i should ask for a small fee for the pimping though:p

I just like to see Mk1s treated with nice things like carbon fibre and i was making sure you would see it:p

you will need the diastasis screw (syndesmotic fixation) removed in the not too distant future (the big one that goes transversely through tibia and fibula), but the rest of it prob can stay in place unless it causes particular problems. if you don't the the tib/fib won't twist as they normally should once everthing has healed and you can end up with pain +++ and sometimes can fracture the metalwork.

You were right, I have to go back for surgery in three weeks :(

Also been told I wont be driving for the rest of the year. That's a sucky thing to be told.

Damn :(

When you were a kid did your parents ever let you sit on their lap and they did the pedals whilst you steered? Well... maybe if you talk nicely to Phil...?

Thinking about it though they might not be too keen on that down Snetterton...

:D

I think that would be a great way for me to improve my times!!! Not sure how you fit 2 people in a bucket seat though :D

A few pics from the trackday at Woodbridge:

Tyres were nearly dead at the start of the day, and the intention was to kill them off, which I think was acheived! Front brake pads were also killed.

The spoiler is too heavy!

I do like Woodbridge, it's got loads of hangars as well as the old tower. It's cool.

We have loads of disused bases round here though.

We would if it made a difference ;) Even a CF one is added weight when it doesn't do anything.

From what ive read is that they are there to stabilise the cars while they corner.

Nothing to do with regular downforce :)

As with spoilers on most road cars, it may have some minor effect on the aerodynamics but it's essentially a styling accessory. I've noticed no ill effects from removing it so it's staying off.

Went to Loughborough on Sunday to pick this beast up:

supercharger.jpg

It was rather a good price and a fairly simple job to do. Well, I say simple.

bits.jpg

All these bits have to somehow also be attached to said engine!!! Looks complicated to me and Phil is feeling a bit daunted but we have plenty of books and expertise to help us!

This will be our Winter project, along with bodywork and suspension. Once we have the supercharged engine in, we will be in a different class in the series, competing against cars such as the Starlet. However as Phil is currently beating most of the entries in this class already, with our current engine, he should still be competitive. He is hoping that the new engine will also get him higher up the overall rankings.

I’m just hoping I wont be last :)

oooooo Kitchster_UK is going to end himself with jealousy.........:D

That doesn't look too bad to be honest. I spent the weekend under the other halfs 206. Not worked ona car for a long time. I only broke the plastic oil filter housing lid so far :D

I'm sure he'll get it running. Are you going to be cleaning it all up or you just going for performance over aesthetics?
