Wow, fantastic day. Most of it spent hanging for dear life as the instructors had us pushing very hard. The open top race cars (not including the caterham) were just too much for me - I loved the way they drove but the G-forces on my puny neck really took it out of me. Also, starting a day in a Palmer Jaguar at 9:00am with 370bhp/tonne and a sequential gearbox was not the gentle introduction I envisaged for someone who hasn't driven for a while!
Palmer Jag
With instructor. Crazy acceleration, rock hard brake pedal which just felt immovable and just one spin due to rushing down the gears. Good fun.
Palmer Audi
Out on our own! Blinding car, but had difficulty holding my head up after 8laps. Fantastic moment when I accelerated all the way through 2nd gear, turbo kicked in, chucked into 3rd gear and powered on through maintaining boost, superfast moment
Clio cup racer
Dissapointing, the instructor wanted more tail out action but I couldn't get the hang of how he wanted me to drive the FWD car.
Nissan 350z
Instructors keen for us to get sideways but also smooth. Great fun but very alien to someone who's never driven a RWD car before. Sure LiveForSpeed game helped with this.
4x4 track
Was okay, different/fun. Slow Wink
Caterham Seven Superlight
Woohoo! Great fun getting corners right (and wrong) using lift off oversteer and power oversteer on a great course.
Porsche 911 JP3
Last blast of the day so was keen for it to be good. Picked up some tips from the guys before my session so was ready to do the business. Had one or two practise laps and then went for it; put my life in the instructors hands and tried to do exactly what he said. Had the most awesome spin of the day, most awesome fish tailing (that I caught) and the best fish tailing moment that I lost. Really tried to lift off sharply and pitch the car into some tighter bends and generally relaxed and tooled around like free time in LiveForSpeed
Also other things on the day, bit of karting, bit of mini autocross in caterhams, loverly lunch, loverly girls driving us from track to track and keeping us organised etc.
Definately do it again, but should try and buld up more muscle to enjoy the hardcore ones more :?
