Hey, my dads been researching into his family and he was telling me about a relative who served in WW2. Long story short, the medals were stolen from my fathers possession quite a while ago, only the medals were taken so we still have the ribbons, and all we really know is the first and surname of the relative - Not really sure on the service number. I realise its not a lot of information but it's worth a try.

Does anyone have anywhere i could look for any leads as i would love to find out even the smallest bit of information.

Thanks.

As above. It can take months and months for them to come through, but certainly worth it in the end. I found out that my grandfather (who was in the Royal Corps of Signals, and killed in action at the Battle of Monte Cassino in 1944) was a commando at one point!

Wow, well that's something. I personally didn't know his relative, but when he told me it annoyed me that someone would do such a thing. I heard that most of the ww2 medals were NOT engraved with names; I could match the ribbons he has to the actual medals and buy him the set that he owned. Its not the actual thing, but its close enough.

Turns out he had an Italy Star, an Africa Star and a Defence Medal. Not too shabby.

Try the British Medals Forum - http://www.britishmedalforum.com/

They were extremely helpful to me when I was trying to track down my great grandfather's WWI medals. They also told me that he was a PoW, which we had no idea about as presumably he'd kept it to himself. A forum member also pointed me towards a book about his regiment in which he is mentioned a couple of times.

If the medals have ended up on the market, these guys are the most likely to know.
