Trackpad and keyboard problem

I'm assuming this is a software problem.

I went to use my laptop tonight and the trackpad and keypad were unresponsive in that the pointer would move round the screen, but I couldn't click on anything.

I rebooted a couple of times and it would then let me click one thing and then died again. I've booted into safe mode and both the trackpad and keyboard work fine. I've also restored Windows (Vista) back to before the last windows update, but it's made no difference.

Has anyone got any suggestions please?

Thanks

Dan

If it is working fine in safe mode. then it must either be a conflict with a system start up program or service.

Try going through your start up list and turning them off 1 by 1 testing each time after a restart. Just make sure you are not turning off somehting that needs to be on at start up.

If you need help figuring that out there is a good site to cross check them but can not think of it atm. you can also use autoruns for start up issues

That's great, thanks for your help. I narrowed it down to either Steam or the Tom Tom updater and as I don't use either, I've left both disabled.

Thanks,

Danny

The trackpad and keyboard are ok, but it's being a bit flakey in general, needing to be rebooted a couple of times coming out of sleep mode.

You are running what again Longhorn AKA Vista. Turn your sleep mode off ASAP Vista was well known for having problems coming out of sleep mode sometimes not coming out at all especially if you have the password on resume enabled.
