Trackpad

They beat the Magic Mouse in every way.

I still use a mouse; I use a standard MS optical mouse in conjunction with the Trackpad as a companion. Trackpad is used when browsing and scrolling through stuff.

The trackpad is awesome. The only time I prefer using a regular mouse over the trackpad is with Photoshop or gaming.

I even use mine in Windows. And they will be even more useful when Lion drops for moving between full screen apps and the various other new gestures being added.

When go back onto your mouse can you turn magic pad off use mouse on top of it? As a sort of expensive mouse mat?

It's not big enough for a mouse mat and it is at an angle. Much better to use than the Magic Mouse. Will be even more useful with Lion as it has more multi-touch gestures.

I got one around a month ago and aside from real precise work it is brilliant. USB optical mouse on standby for the odd times it may be needed (hasn't been so far)

I've found it to be very good. I've got the Apple rechargeable ones and they last over a week before I have to recharge them.

I got the rechargeable batteries and trackpad second hand on AVForums - there's normally one or two for sale. I had to be patient though to get one at a price I was willing to pay.

I have a Magic Mouse but I'm getting a Trackpad as well, mainly for Lion although I'm sure for browsing it will replace the mouse. AVF classifieds are indeed the best bet, although occasionally I've seen them listed 2nd hand on the rainforest site for £30, they get snapped up v. quickly though.

Well worth it, I weren't overly keen initially, but if you give it a chance and embrace gestures you'll love it.

Deffinately recommend usig magicprefs in conjunction though, as with the the magic mouse the tracking is far too slow.

Also, I doubt you'll find one on the cheap unless used.

I have one ordered with my iMac, I had a play with one today in the apple store and found it to be very comfortable.

I have slight RSI so I am going to force myself to like it... but first impressions are very positive...

Then you'll want to avoid the chiclet keyboard. Otherwise if you type a lot you'll end up with numb finger tips and probably a lot of pain. You'd also probably benefit more from a keyboard with an integrated trackpoint on the home row to completely reduce the movement of your hand from keyboard to mouse/trackpad.
