Trackpad

Just thought it was fair to report back abou the trackpad that picked up today , absolute love it . I can tell it will take a few days to really get used to some gestures and copying and pasting but its loads better than than the mouse for a lazy browser like me!

I picked one up in CeX this morning for £50. Traded in a few games, so only spent £20 net.

I'll report back this evening...

I purchased a Trackpad back in March, as I'm not a fan of the mouse, it's just too thin in the hand.

I was mainly just using the Trackpad for scrolling when reading webpages and such.

Since Lion came out though, I've been using it all the time, as the new OS is pretty much designed around using a Trackpad to do gestures.

Obviously I still use a Mouse, especially for anything technical, but I find myself doing less so at the moment. Infact, now I've got used to being able to side swipe along in Aperture, it's then annoying when I can't do it with my Mouse. (Tho you technically could with the Apple mouse, I just wish it was bigger).

I don't use a mouse at all any more, there's just no need.

The trackpad is great, I rarely use an external mouse on my MBP.

However, there are some tasks, usually when working, tasks that require press in multiple buttons across the screen repeatedly that is still easier and faster using a proper mouse.

Got mine set up - having a bit of a practice with it. Seems pretty nice. Not convinced about tap to click, as I seem to end up clicking everywhere by mistake, but other than that it's good.

Any mileage in picking up something like Better Touch Tool?

Yes, it let's you customisethe gestures in any way you like. Well worth it.

Hurrah. Tiptap right for open in new tab, and three finger tap for refresh. Might setup one for close tab. This is indeed magic.

Might dig out my Apple Keyboard and get that up on the desk, so I can just keep my hands up there and stop moving down to the keyboard tray... Will have to leave the crappy black Logitech keyboard for my wife, as she'll not stand for that @ / " nonsense.

Edit: Just testing my Apple keyboard... The keys feel quite small compared to my other keyboard. The travel of the keys and the feel of them is better than I expected. I think I'll probably be able to get the hang of it in due course. To be honest one of the main things I think I'll like is having all the function keys and whatnot on there. I've just been trying to set up some gestures on the magic trackpad to change the volume of the computer and it's not easy, so doing it from the keyboard is probably the way forward!

Edit: Got BTT set up so a four finger swipe left closes a tab in Firefox. Feels like Minority Report
