Trade in same model with more miles

Sounds like you should pay around £2.5k then, at least you can be sure it's had a great start in life. Great position to be in.

You have already made your mind up, hell you had in the first post. So take it down to the dealers and see how much they actually offer you. Then you can come back and tell people they don't know their job etc..

I've been there recently and was offered 3.5-4 times more than 1k from 3 dealers. So from my limited sample I can make a judgement of who knows their job.

That means you'd effectively be paying up to £6k? Sounds reasonable. Seriously can't put a price on the peace of mind on things like this tbh.

Doesn't need it for another year or two and don't think a dealer would replace tyres if they had 4mm tread (the other car has similar tyres that will need replacement in a year btw). Would they?

Thanks. One of the few sensible posts. I guess it all comes down to how much I have to put their way. More than 2k is too much but on the other hand even if they gave me trade money it would be more than I bought the car for in the first place so wouldn't mind negotiating around 1.5k mark.

It's a completely ridiculous idea. If you want a new car buy something else. If you want a C5 keep yours.

You're budgeting for replacement tyres when they're on 4mm?

Then if your car doesn't need the work doing for another year or two, why do it?

You really should take notice of the very people who's advice you seeked! It is madness but it seems you've made your mind up though from reading through the thread.

Unfortunately no alternative for this type of suspension so it will have to be a Citroen again. I agree, no point buying a new Citroen (or any other make as they depreciate by 20% as soon as the happy dealer hands over the keys to you) but as said previously I will not be losing any money.

OP - Not quite sure why you bothered making the thread to be honest. All you've done is argue against the general feeling in the thread, which is don't bother wasting your money.

Unless your dealer offers a straight swap then of course you are losing money.
