Trade in same model with more miles

Are you going to argue with everyone if they tell you that dealers don't employ mechanics, only fitters

This isn't actually true - most franchised main dealers, particularly the larger ones, will employ a mixture of both mechanics *and* fitters. The fitters will get the easy work.

and that you are more likely to get better service from an independent with lots of positive reviews?

I'd say its 6 of one, half dozen of the others. There are numerous crap main dealers out there who will gladly take a fortune off you for doing very little but there are equally many 'independant specialists' out there which are nothing of the sort and equally if not more incompetent than the main dealers you dislike so much.

There are fabulous independants out there who are worth their weight in gold but there are also decent main dealers, too.

That's hardly the same thing Bear, the newer model will have improvements. He is looking to buy the exact same year and model.

Of course you are not wrong and I completely agree with you, but the point I was making was more that purely in terms of financials. Trading in a 5 year old car for the same model car but 2 years old, all be a face lift model is still a waste of money.

All the same arguements apply, like stick with what you know, if your car has been a reliable car how do you know the new one will be as well etc. Is nicer feel switch gear, DRL, 6 speed box etc really worth the what £8k ultimately ? I would argue in terms of finacials, my debating changing car as quite a lot of people in the same situation do is a greater waste of money than the OP due to the sums involved but then it all depends on your financial position.

Cars rarely make any financial sense especially for most of us in here, else we would more than likely be driving tiny econoboxes. Perhaps me writing this is me subconciously talking myself out of making a purchase :D

I so want to argue, but you are right. I am really unlucky in that I haven't found a main dealer for BMW that are competent along the whole Welsh section of the M4 :(

On the other hand, Ocean BMW in Plymouth couldn't have been more helpful.

For a conventional suspension I wouldn't hesitate to hand it over to my trusty local indie.

Not sure about the Hydracrive one though as they admitted not having much experience.

The other dealer called today asking if I am still interested in trading in my C5!?!

Don't get too excited..it won't because they're desperate for your car or anything.

Their customer relationship management system (which your details would have been entered into when you made the enquiry) will be prompting the salesman to follow up your enquiry.
