Trader jailed for three years.

If the trade had scored profit his bosses would be sweeping it under the carpet, patting his back and taking him to the nearest strip joint ...........

Good luck with that.

he'll have to declare bankrupcy. Lose his house, lose his car, lose his job, lose his credit, lose everything he has.

Yeah.... it's such a light punishment.

Keep in mind, he is a very very very rich man and it's not like his losing a 1 bedroom flat and a ford fiesta, or in the french case, a citroen c3.

perhaps because non of that is illegal, and the bankers in this country didn't do anything wrong.

Quite fed up of the bank haters. Probably Labours best spin ever

It seems to be the default argument for people who have no idea what is going on, "bloody bankers got us in this mess" etc etc.

Infuriating when you work for a decent bank.

It seems to me that he was made a scapegoat to be honest. What he did was wrong, and he should be punished for it, but the whole thing smacks of the industry relishing the opportunity to pin the blame for recent economical woes on something and ravenously leaping at the chance.

There are such things as good banks, unless you believe everything you read in the newspaper.

is there? could you then please point me in the direction of one who will offer me advice rather than try and sell me stuff?
could you also point me in the direction of one that will give me an interest rate in line with what they charge in interest?
that's what i want from a good bank. i don't believe that a bank can be judged 'good' just because they don't take stupid risks with my money, i'd like to think that is a given.

It's a shame that banks have gone this way, but it is always going to be the same in any competitive market. Advice may lead down the path of a product that suits your needs or it may not. When I was in retail I was told to sell sell sell, but that wasn't my main aim, it was to always help the customer even if it got me in hot water. Sadly most people are not like this.

They are never going to do that, how do you expect them to make a profit if they pay out similar to what they charge.

People are very quick to forget how much they get free from banks.

Of course there are . . . banks are a great place to work if you have an incurable gambling habit and absolutely no morals ;)

Yeah because that is all Banks do, I am willing to bet that not even 10% of a banks workforce are directly involved in that aspect of banking.

i understand they will always loan at a higher rate than they give but i really am starting to take a dislike to banks and bankers who are literally gambling with other peoples money. i know it has always been like this, i know it will never change but that doesn't mean i have to like it. unfortuanetly, i have no other realistic option but to grin and bare it.

Well unless you have over 50k with one bank you have nothing to worry about as your money is safe and guaranteed by the government.

If you have more than 50k with the bank then it is more than likely that the banks gambling is earning you a return.
