Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

People punt penny stocks aswell as holding ftse companies, poeple talk about them more as they tend to move more.

There are some good links to follow in here and if he wants to trade it's worth reading everything he can in my opinion. You soon realise that bulletin boards and forums have snippets of info and data that you can pick out from the rest of the crap.

google naked trader and buy his book. Unfortunately if it was all about knowing things the best traders would be people with a phd or something but as seen with sub prime the real genius people with twenty years experience can make obvious mistakes. ie. no one can tell you what you should know.

read the ft or dont, some traders just watch prices its more about the spirit and style in which you trade thats likely to determine your success, you only need to know enough to stop yourself going cross eyed when looking at balance sheet or whatever.
I say this as someone who mostly lacks the guile that Im fairly sure is what makes the real big money in trading, some call it luck.
investing is more sensible and less profitable

70% of stocks I hold are the multi billion type big stocks but that includes sipp holdings. Anyone else here use a sipp?

Emed lost all their gains from the other day 12% or whatever. Rio tinto roman era copper mine among other holdings
They floating on the TSX and issuing tons of shares, valued 35m raising another 25m.
Not sure what its going to do exactly, have 0.08% of funds there.

That was almost a century ago and if you read his fictionalised biography you'll find he was also rather good with figures. Rather less efficient markets back then - these days there are lots of smart people who are good with figures....

XEL and BMR both down today and with all the comments flying around from everybody and their dog about how I should be selling now or buying now I've decided to stay off some of the more intense investor boards and check back with them once the flow rates of XEL are released and BMR sort their licences out :)

Would Tullow Oil be a good investment? They found the first oil in Ghana today, and plan on producing 55000 barrels per day. £12.15 a share at the moment, down 1.73%.

I was so close to hitting up BARC yesterday. Finger hovering over buy just to get a small rise, not necessarily a long punt.

Keen to see what happens at open!

Bah, Americans ruining my good BP run!

At least MTA is well up again now with their two new wells coming along. Hopefully they've fixed the water issue.

Looks like this was already factored into the price - there seems to be concern over what is going on in Uganda , as always DYOR :D

See the last king of scotland for an excellent film on uganda

Barc is being well beat up in general, not really easy money. 254 area is a point thats been tested many times now

Thinking about xel being a buy at 190 if it got there. fpm looks good now

Faroe has a 12.5% share in the joint venture at Anne Marie. The other companies involved are ENI Denmark (25%), Dana Petroleum (25%), OMV (20%), Cieco E&P (12.5%) and First Oil Expro (5%).

Dana had a good rise like Tullow, so bit of a link is its founder after dana being bought just like tullow is now at parkmead who also has part of fpm

Couldn't resist another little punt on CNR the other day, good news too as it's gone up 10% again today. JORC leak maybe? Fingers crossed.

Medavinci appears to be ticking up steadily as well, very early days on that one but remaining very hopeful for Q2 next year.

I'm tempted to top up again on CNR, free commission on halifax trades today before 3pm making it ever more tempting.

Edit: Just bought another couple hundred quids worth, only a smallish amount but with free commission seemed silly not to add a few more.

Fantastic news for XEL this morning.

RNS : -

The Company announces that the flow test of the 9/3b-6z horizontal well on the Bentley field has been successfully completed.

The flow rates achieved demonstrate both the commerciality of the Bentley field and the reservoir properties to be above the upper end of modelled expectations.

Key flow test results were:

· Total flow test of 36 hours including clean-up of 9 hours, with cumulative production to tote tanks of over 2,000 barrels.

· Multi-rate flow tests were conducted, culminating in a final stabilised flow rate of 2,900 stock tank barrels of oil per day.

Richard Smith, Chief Executive Officer of Xcite Energy, commented:

"This is an outstanding outcome for the Xcite team and for the industry contractors to deliver this successful well test on Bentley. This flow test fully demonstrates the commercial potential of the Bentley field and the long-held belief that Xcite has maintained in this major North Sea asset. We now move on to the first stage production planned for 2011 with an excellent platform."
