Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

iii is halifax. they wont let you do anything too radical. Barclays will give you enough rope to hang yourself, ask them

can day trade with either of them so long as you are right. Ive never used level 2 or order book whatever that is, I read its often put with misleading info anyway

nakedtrader has a book detailing this stuff, read his website. He is self made and primarily a journalist

You need a direct access broker for day trading, not the likes of x-o. These usually require high initial investments too, think £10k+.

If you really need to ask whether iii or x-o are better for day trading, I don't think it would be wise to pursue it any further :p

Oh I dont intend to jump into it blind! Hence the reason Im asking.
I do understand a lot of the Corporate Finance aspect of it, but wasnt sure about the vehicles that allow such trading access.

(As I mentioned above, Im not going to dive into it head first, going to stick my toe in and test the temperature :D)

Maybe a mistake but I put some into RKH t'other day at 280p, was waiting for a drop as they looked expensive over 350p. I hope they come good!

My colleague went with Desire in October. Bought at 80p odd then rubbed his hands when it hit 135p. Now it's down to 35p after several bad drills and he's regretting not offloading.

Risky business the Falklands stuff.

works fine for me. Y can't they be used exactly, have I missed something?

bullit

Because for day trading, in the proper sense, you really want a direct access broker. They tend to come with software (trading software) which allows you to execute trades directly, analyse and view data, so forth.

They also usually have lower prices per trade because if you're executing for example XX trades a day, you don't really to be paying upwards of £6 a trade.

RKH already found oil though and DES to date is as dry as the desert :p

How much is current assets of rkh worth Im not sure, that'd help.

Even cheaper broker, fairly new but linked to established figures

At JPJShare.com we offer online execution-only broking for as little as £4.75 per trade* - so you can trade as often as you like, without worrying about extortionate costs.

For execution-only online trades we charge:

Just £5.75 per trade - if you make less than 15 trades in a month

Just £4.75 per trade - if you make 15 or more trades in a month

Or if you really are the next gordon gecko or bud fox even try interactivebrokers

Some of the usa dealers handle shares for a cent cost each. Wish we had that, I saw one say zero charges for etf dealing & no tax on etf either

Oh absolutely (it was just a generalised question at this stage). I do intend to do a lot more indepth research and reading regarding this before even contemplating it. But I was just curious about which services offered the possibility of trading futures.

Interactive Brokers are fairly comprehensive - they have their own software or you can connect with other software like ninja trader.

Perhaps look into trading spreads - you essentially trade two or more futures contracts that are correlated - not too different to pairs trading in equities. You could trade related products - say WTI vs Brent crude - (both are quoted in USD and trade on the ICE exchange - this makes things easier) or look at calendar spreads - trading different contracts (different expiry dates) on the same product.

Essentially the benefits of trading spreads are that you're less exposed to sudden market moves compared with taking directional punts as your loss on one leg is offset by a gain on the other. Exchanges recognise this in some instances and will give you margin reductions on certain spreads.
Other spreads (such as say Gilt/Bund) will involve contracts quoted on different exchanges and different currencies so won't get you any reduction in margin and will also mean you need to keep an eye on FX rates.

Yea I argee with what you're saying dowie. The problem is it is the textbook way. Not the GG way :D

Hehe joking aside, no you are absolutely right.

Out of interest what is InteractiveBrokers damage?

Not necessarily - the average textbook on 'trading' (at least most of the ones aimed at retail investors) will likely not touch on the subject of spread trading but rather will cover technical analysis etc.. and be aimed at people wanting to take directional punts - the vast majority of people who try to do this have no edge and will inevitably fail.

Depends what you want to trade - they have a list of charges on their website. They're one of the most comprehensive though there are plenty of other brokers out there - if it is specifically futures you're interested in then you might find lower charges elsewhere - various places will offer discounts for volume.

MDZ, what would give you an opinion that this is a good buy?

not calling just asking.

Well beaten by your edit :) I'm a novice with all this stock market stuff, but I noticed them today and all the graphic stuff and the massive drop in price

CNR sits in the green all day more or less, then dumps 5% 15 minutes before the bell. Sigh. MVC should be picking up soon though, fingers most definitely crossed for that.

CRND with 60% up in a day. I reckon it's got a little more to go too.

They're waiting for a decision from the South African government to help them fund works to stop the companies gold from disappearing under the rising water line... looks like media pressure is building positively on the gov. RNS tomorrow apparently..
