Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

The site is very, very basic. It's basically a buy and sell affair. I haven't relied on it for anything else whatsoever. I don't think they offer any telephone brokering, simply customer support.

In terms of switching over, check with your current broker. X-O will charge nothing to accept shares transferred from another broker, but your broker will almost certainly charge to transfer them. X-O charge £15 per stock to do this, but other brokers will probably charge more.

I find that all the information I need, whether that be information about the companies, discussion and forecasts, historical data or live prices - it's all available for free elsewhere.

EDIT: It seems TD Waterhouse charge £25 per holding to transfer out: http://www.tdwaterhouse.co.uk/typesofaccount/ratecard-full-rates-charges.cfm

Im using HSBC at 11.95 a trade.

Handy though as I have a £10k settlement account which means I dont have to worry about moving money around before making a trade.

That would be useful. I'd have gotten more Rockhopper at Rockbottom prices if money was available more quickly!

yeah see td waterhouse give me a big account too. dangerous but its there if i need it.

think i might stick to TD. for the sake of £4 per trade difference i want the extra options.

Yeah you can take big punts, Ie buy £10,000 of shares in the morning and then sell them later that day without even needing to find the cash to buy those shares.

Obviously that's a bit risky though!

Today was nice though, whole portfolio is green (or White for RKH)

Where do you guys buy shares from? How much does it cost to buy shares?

edit - just saw recent posts about this! i read the first few pages, didnt bother to check the end of the thread... doh

RKH confirmed huge oil discovery, share price up 40% but do not sell - this is only the start.

And do not ask how much my stupid failed attempt to sell + rebuy at lower price from the other day has cost me!!!! (But better to make cash than lose it eh)

The week isn't over yet :p

Going to keep a very close eye on these today, like Simon i didn't put too much in (£800) since between other buys this week thats all i had floating around, wish i used the 5k in my trade account to buy at 182 :(
