Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Wait for it, there'll be blood in the streets in the not too distant future.

Who is this guy?

But seriously, I obviously had no idea Covid-19 was going to show up, but it was obvious something was going to trigger a sell off.

You'd be a lunatic to hold right now, this has only just started.

Warning signs had been there for months. All these people popping up "I'm new to this and want to get buy some STONKS", even stuff like the wallstreetbets subreddit hitting the front page regularly with people making millions. The old "When your taxi driver starts asking you for stock tips" signal to get out. Bad news triggering a tiny fall followed by instant surging back to record highs.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 50% fall from peak in the next few months. Could be more depending on how the financial system holds up to such a shock.

Or if you're sensible, don't panic and take part in a massive sell off? Long term views and all that jazz.

I guess it depends if you think things are overvalued currently.

The only thing worse than selling during a crash, is holding during a crash.

The smart money GTFO now. The potential downside to this far outweighs the risk of missing the bottom when you buy back in.

Some good buying opportunities coming up, but not if you've wiped yourself out by holding to the bottom.

Probably the worst advice i've ever read.

No it wasn't, at least not like that. It is meaningless to make some vague claim about some unspecific sell off in the future etc...

As you've said you had no idea this new corona virus was going to show up.

Without it then things might have carried on for a bit, there might have been a dip later etc.. though that dip might not have even been below the point at which you called it etc... Or indeed there might well have been some sell off at some unspecified date in the future etc..

Where I'm sat, my 'meaningless' claim about an impending big selloff event is looking pretty meaningful....

The markets were overheated and fragile, any kind of shock was going to trigger a meltdown.

So your advice is to hold.

Let's come back in a few months and see who was giving the good advice :)

Let's look now - you're advising people to dump and get in later bearing in mind many of this forum are not savvy traders. Claiming that the only thing worse than selling is holding.......when really if you hold you still have something.

If you sell now you could be selling at the bottom and lose. The only thing you miss by holding is potential opportunities elsewhere.

If you sell you still have something, cash.

Could be selling at the bottom. Could be selling at the precipice of a serious crash. Good thing this is a thread for discussing the stock market right? I think we're not at the bottom, we could see drops to values seen several years ago. Let's see how it plays out eh.
