Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

Santender are in a bid to buy Williams & Glyn subsidery from RBS.

British Land are also pressing ahead speculatively with 122 Leadenhall. They prefere a joint venture but have enough capital to start it on their own. Looks like Heron International, Sellar and Bishopsgate will have a contender. :)

Wish I put some in at 340 now for BP, ah well.

Other then google finance, what websites do people use?

I missed out @ 295 last Friday, oh well

Other than google finance, shareprice as mentioned above is also good with links to forums from within the company you are looking at.

Interesting how this has turned from a thread about trading - started by someone who's earning a living from daytrading US equities into posts about investing and/or taking punts on random small cap stocks.

I've put 2k into XYZ and its gone up **% etc...

Not really, considering that is where most of our interests lie!

You got into it at the wrong time, stocks have been on a downward spiral since 2007.

There is still money to be made, but it's going to be in real things with real value, ie commodities.

Funny how this turned out since the thread started.
With the Fed setting the cost of money at zero the world is turning upside down at an ever increasing rate in my opinion. AIG was one of the biggest moneymaker shares last year, same for the doomed banks over here and more independently Ford - http://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=...on;ohlcvalues=0;logscale=off;source=undefined

I count us as mid cycle, there has to be a lot of upset ahead when the gravity comes back on , 'it doesnt hurt till you hit the ground'

Having lost a five figure sum (5-10 years ago), I'm never trying it again...

The things is, as a private trader you're too susceptible to word of mouth/rumours. And quite often these are put out by people simply wishing people to buy so as to raise the price, so they can quickly sell...

Very true, its more common in america I think it happens naturally anyway as part of the herd instinct

Well yes that is apparent from how the thread has turned out but wasn't apparent when it started.

Tis slightly ironic - sticking a few K in some small cap stock and then getting lucky when it goes up a bit is very different to actively trading. People such as the OP are actively avoiding reliance on luck and will try to find exploitable inefficiencies in the markets that they can repeatedly use to their advantage. If you're utilizing a strategy in which you'll be executing many trades again and again then in the long term luck plays no part. If you're sticking a few k into some small cap stock (regardless of the research you've done) your return is often mostly reliant on luck.
