Hey guys,

Just wondering if anyone can give me a bit of their past experience. I was travelling up from Stamford to Aberdeen and went past a stationary traffic officer at around 80-85 MPH indicated (yes breaking speed limit, baby killer etc etc).

What are the odds on them issuing a ticket without stopping me?

Cheers for the replies.

Was it a traffic officer or a police car? Pretty big difference but unless there was a man with a speed gun the chances are you are fine.

Traffic officers drive the black and yellow striped discos usually, a police car looks like a police car. Both cause chaos due to frighten ***** not overtaking either.

It was a volvo, stationary, no one out of the car but I thought they had the guns in the back?

Quite a lot of traffic cars have rear facing speed cameras, they park up and zap speeding motorists although I would have thought they'd subsequently give chase to said baby killer.

OP is probably ok..... Probably.....

You'll almost certainly be OK. I recently attended my second speed awareness course, and they repeated one of the statements from the first, which was that the average speed of a car on a free-flowing motorway is apparently 85mph.

The feds must also know this, so as long as you weren't driving like a tool and there are no aggravating factors you'll probably get away with it.

I think as Firestar said they'd also need to pull you over to issue the ticket. The traffic cars tend to have a rear and forward facing ANPR cameras and those are mainly looking out for uninsured/untaxed/reported stolen vehicles, rather than speeders.

I've just spoke to the Police & they said don't worry they saw you but couldn't be ****** to do there job. :p

For Truth though they were to busy setting up a road block & helicopter for some lad who had stole a skateboard & was dangerously riding on the pavement. :D

Cheers for the input guys, I had guessed as much and since the majority of people over taking me at 90+ would have probably been in the same boat I guess I was just looking for a bit of experience out with my group.

I was under the impression a traffic car needed to pull you over and issue a ticket?

Not true, I got done for 81 in a 70 zone by Cumbria's finest. I saw them standing by the side of the cop car and though it would be OK. However my mate said he though they had a camera at the back of the car and I said it's cool I'm only doing 80! There's speed camera warning signs at various points on that road so not much you can say about it.

Done the speed awareness course and they said the guideline was 70 + 10% to get the ticket + 10% to get offered the course (78-85) 86+ and you take the fine and points.

I was travelling at 80mph with an unmarked traffic officer following me (right hand lane of an M road) for a few miles, when I pulled into the middle lane he carried on his way without evening looking at me...

Road was fairly clear and weather was good, so I don't think they thought I was abusing the speed limits too much.
