was driving home today down the felling bypass. was doing 40mph (its a 40 road) and just as i would say i was about 2 car lengths away from the traffic lights and they changed to yellow.

insted of slamming my brakes on i just shot through, but it barely stayed on yellow for anytime atall and would probly say it turned red before my back wheels were over the line.

now i didnt see any flash from behind and no flash from the one in front but it was the bright of day and i dont think they require a flash do they?.

for a stupid lapse in concentration i should have probly tried to stop atleast.

it wont be the end of the world if i get points.
just want to vent.

Someone on google says once the light turns red, theres a 1.5 second delay for the camera to become active. Anyone know if thats true?

Normally on a 40mph road the amber light would stay on for roughly 5 seconds if I remember correctly. That should have given you plenty of notice to stop.

Its also the front wheels that count not the back. I would expect there to be a delay as well, just like a 30mph camera doesnt get our for doing 31.

As I understand it, it uses a field of some sort (light or magnetic I think) and looks for it being broken after the lights have changed. If it is already broken, then it won't activate until whatevers in the way clear it. So basically, if your nose crosses the line on amber, your fine however long the rest takes to get through.

I think your safe, been through them in exactly the same circumstances and its been fine. When I have seen them going off the person concerned as blatantly gone through a red!

2 car lengths (what 12ft?) at 40mph and you'd be through the lights and a good few feet past in less than a second no? Unless my maths are failing me, i'd say you're safe

Saw one flash at about 2pm on a clear Summers day, some pleb decided to test it i guess, i was well over the other side, so i'd bet you would see it being right under it. I have a friend in Traffic and he reckons its 0.8 seconds before its armed on a red.

Yep, many a time i see people go over on Red where theres a camera and i wonder WTF, why did it not flash? And i've seen those particular ones work before with police/emergency services etc.. so there must be a healthy delay.
