You can't deny somebody who has been driving many years has a higher chance, through experience, of being safer than Kevin fresh out of his test.

True, but you can't deny that people with too many years under the belt might be worse than Kevin ;):p

What is at issue that is to chance? The idea is to 'prove' someone guilty - irrespective of probables.

Whether this occurs in reality...............

To be honest , you have to look at it a lot more open mindedly.

The fresh driver may be totally inexperienced, however if he can see and react to danger more quickly due to his age and reaction time he may well save himself from an accident.
Whereas the self confident old bloke who has done it every day, will be stuck in a false sense of security, thinking he will be fine - then reacting too slowly and causing an accident.

Not to say thats a final word on that, but it makes you think. Besides at the end of the day neither is actually safe whatsoever, i think the worst classes of people on the road, are the extremely young and the extremely old - only after my fathers work car got taken out by a boyracer on a roundabout, and a few years later an old woman hit the gas not the break and wrote off the family car by ploughing into the back of it at a junction. hence we are all now such wary drivers.

There's as many idiot drivers in the middle age bracket as well but the statistics are that its the younger male drivers who have a sadly disproportonate representation in the accident rates particularly involving fatalitys.

It's not right at all. A 17 year old doing 100mph down a dual carriageway 35 minutes after passing his test is dangerous.

A 55 year old doing 100mph down a dual carriageway following 35 years of impeccable driving is not so dangerous.

Agreed.

I've been in cars with my mates who have just passed and they speed, dont leave enough space infront etc :(

When I start ill make dam sure I have at-least 3 car lengths in front (1983 Mark 1 Golf 1.6 ;)) so ABS etc isn't exactly fitted :p)

Also heard of people my age in my school driving while drunk :( :(

Sometimes I think they should get whats coming to em.
