Hi,

Firstly I am going to be in Prague and hoping to travel to Vienna or Dresden for the day when I get there.

I am confused about the travel methods, I am so far looking at train but I am not sure if it involves any changes. It says this:

pragueviennaou8.jpg

I am not sure if that involves any changes or whether it is a Prague train station from the start or the metro station. I am heavily confused.

and I dont have a clue what the czech means at the bottom where it mentions inter/super city.

I've used the website www.vlak.cz

Does the train use any changes or is it straight forward?

Straight forward by the looks of it, all arrival + departure times are two minutes apart so I assume it's the same train.

Thanks. I thought this might be the case but wasn't sure.

The name of the train is stated at the top of the page but I just really wasn't sure if it was direct.

I usually find intercity journies in Europe easier to sort just at the station, either with a little man on a counter or via a ticket machine - the stations should all have massive charts up on the wall showing destinations, times etc, usually fairly self explanatory.

Incidentally, I'm doing half that journey in reverse tomorrow, from Vienna to Brno, just for a day out :p

Hey,

How much is that costing you? and thats direct isnt it?

I think I will be paying in czech krone (return ticket) and then taking euros to Vienna.

There's a few different services, the Austrian OBB website says the EC74 is direct in my direction (vienna > brno) but there's a few alternatives with changes at other times.

Couldn't tell you how much it'll cost til I get to the station tomorrow - it won't break the bank, far shorter than the journey to say Graz, and that was < €20. Very handy being based in Vienna for little trips away, been off to Bratislava and Soprom in the last week too :) If you want to check the Austrian trains site yourself, it's here - that should be in English, and has timetables both ways for Prague - Vienna. Enjoy the trip!

Your ticket should cover the whole journey, so if there are changes or you get confused someone should point you in the right direction again, and you can stay with the same ticket, even if you get off and find you need to get back on the next train. As far as I remember the Czech rail service was fine.

The sites currently not working at the moment so I can't seem to get on to it, but I found some prices.

Prague - Vienna = 51 Euros (return) 34.69GBP
Prague - Dresden = 32 Euros (return) 21.77GBP

Thats not too bad.. just waiting for the Austrian OBB website to work. :)

Let me know how much it costs anyway, and let me know how the journey goes my email address is in my (msn ) at the side. :)

The train is straight through from Prague to Vienna, the other train that goes to Vienna changes in Bratislava. So you're ok, no changes on the route you posted. :)

The train station is behind the Nadrazi Holesovice metro station on the red (C) metro line, you're in the right place if you see a McDonalds.
