Hi All,

I've got to go on a course in London at the end of March. It's very near to Euston station and as I'm not stopping over (4 day course) I really dont want the grief of driving from near Coventry so though train is best (I can claim back travel).

So can anyone give me any pointers/websites advice on how to get the best price rather than 130-150 per day for a ticket. Also is possible/best to buy in advance for better prices?. I need to travel to get from Coventry/Nuneaton to Euston before 9am (and want to come back at 5pm).

Can you get special 7 day or 5 day pases or something or are they limited to off peak travel etc?

Sorry for probably noobish questions but I havent used the train in years.

Cheers All.

I'm not sure on off peak times but think you will be travelling in and out during those times :/ which obviously means a higher price.

Can you not claim back the cost of a hotel? Might be cheaper to get one train in and out and hotels for the middle. Just a thought.

Buy a 7 day Coventry to London Euston Season Ticket.

£127 for the slower London Midland Service or £156 for the faster Virgin Trains service.

Job done.

If you're willing to sit on a coach, megabus is less than a tenner in total each day.

using a hotel or B&B would be far cheaper and make sense as you dont have to waste time travelling

you quoted 130-150 in your OP.. hotl & BB afaik cost far less

I've already given the price for a 7 day season ticket, its £130-£150 a WEEK not a DAY.

Why would you be happy to waste time sitting alone in a hotel room instead of travelling back home, anyway?

Thanks Fox thats great. If I wanted to stay over I would have driven down and stopped in a hotel but for 1 hour ish on a train and not being away from home train is a winner.

You might as well stop over. Book into a travel lodge for c.£50 a night and save yourself loads of travel fares and only make the journey there once and back once.

You might as well stop over

Have you not read the thread?

Why do people do this?

Book into a travel lodge for c.£50 a night

Ok, so now we have one advance return down on Monday and back Friday at £33, and 4 nights in a travelodge at £200. £233.

and save yourself loads of travel fares

Please explain how spending £233 on travel and a Travelodge 'saves loads of travel fares' over buying a 7 day season ticket for £127.

My maths tells me your 'save loads' option is over £100 more expensive.
