I'm after some running trainers but there are no decent shops that sell them near me. I'm not serious about running, they will just be be for a 30 min jog once or twice a week, normally on grass not road running. My budget is only around £60 really.

I have a few questions:
1. Where is a good place to buy them online?
2. Is there a particular brand that I should look for/avoid?
3. Are there any special 'features' I should look for?

The first and new Under Armour trainers are out today :D Hopefully they'll be awesome!!
As for your situation, just get to the biggest sports store you can find and try lots of pairs on and see which suite your style (running wise) best.
I like Nike, but a lot of runners wear Aasics
 
There isn't any running shops near me so I cant really get a proper examination done. My shoes do wear down on the outside faster than the inside though. I've done a quick read and this seems to indicate that I am more likely to have underpronator style of movement. I don't know exactly what type of arch I have but I'm pretty certain I don't have flat feet so this seems to suggest that a curved, cushioned trainer would be best.

Does this sound like a wise decision or do you really need to get a proper examination done? Remember I'm not a serious runner!

Personally i dont see what possible need you could have for specialist running shoes, try and travel to buy in person as buying something like this online could be a minefield. But for 30 mins a day 2 days a week on softish ground you could prolly do it in ceremonial clogs tbh, its a bit like asking what surround kit you should buy to watch the news now and again.
 
Specialist running shoes can be good though, especially if you're going to be training regularly. I suffered badly with my knees and it turned out my trainers were to blame as they made me run on the outside of my feet making some tendons over-work and other under-work. In the long term this caused some painful injuries. You really are best finding a running shop somewhere and having your feet checked out if you are intending on doing much running, I wouldn't recommend going to JJB and buying a snazzy pair of nike's!
 
I had problems with my lower back and left knee, with off the shelf 'running' trainers.I got some Gait analysis done at the local running shop, and with their reccomendation I was running upto 10 miles last year, makes a massive difference imo, even if you are doing a mile or two.

Gyms do gait analysis too, I just cannot reccomend online shoe purchases tbh, its so easy to damage your back for life with poor equipment.Its just not worth the risk.
