Training For Everest Base Camp

I did this about 8 years ago. I recommend a lot of walking to toughen your feet and lots and lots of stairs. The first couple of days is literally climbing stairs for hours. Don't worry about getting fit by running.

I'm on my feet most of the day and always up and down stairs/ladders etc.

Generally I can walk all day without any bother, the stair like climbing all day and altitude is what I'm trying to prepare for.

My boots are feeling fine, wore them all weekend although I didn't really walk any great distance.

Are you planning on treking poles too ? those and maybe Sorbothane insoles (I used on some scarpa Inverno boots ) helped, personally.

What is the minimum walking temperatures - can it be freezing ?

You can't really prepare for altitude other than being high up in the first place. I remember randomly being out of breathe just laying in bed.

You will spend a day or two in one of the towns to help with acclimatising don't really worry about it.

What's it actually like good hike, good views? Or pretty poor and just done for the name?

Not planning on poles, never used them. I'm sure they'll be available out there if needed.

I think its nearly guaranteed to be freezing temps at some point on the hike.

The views are incredible! You end up traversing through forests, desert, snow and glaciers, it's pretty cool. It does get challenging as you ascend and just walking feels tough especially above 5000m, it is something like a 2 week trek so don't expect a cakewalk, your feet will be wrecked with blisters.

If you're a keen photographer the opportunities for great shots are endless. Take a tripod for night shots if you can.
