Hi all,

I have a domain that I want to transfer to another person. I asked my hosting/registrant how to go about this and they said I should contact them for an EPP code and then pass this code on to the person receiving the domain.

I have done this and requested via email an EPP code from my lot. I emailed the guy who will be receiving the domain to tell him I had started the ball rolling, so to speak, and about 5 minutes ago I received this email ( I presume something he initiated? ) :-

DOMAIN NAME TRANSFER - Initial Authorization for Registrar Transfer

Re: Transfer of ***************.COM

Dear GoDaddy.com, Inc. Customer,

GoDaddy.com, Inc. received a request on 7/9/2010 for us to become the new registrar of record.

You have received this message because you are listed as the Registered Name Holder or Administrative contact for this domain name in the WHOIS database. If you are not the Account Holder, or you are transferring the domain to a new owner, please forward this email to the appropriate Account Holder so that they may complete the transfer process.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
IMPORTANT: If the steps below are not completed, the domain name(s) listed above will NOT be transferred to us.

To proceed with the transfer, follow the instructions here:
http://help.godaddy.com/topic/160/article/1592?prog_id=GoDaddy&isc=gdbb2

In the process of authorizing this transfer, you will be prompted to provide the Transaction ID and Security Code:

Transaction ID: ********
Security Code: **********

Once a transfer takes place, you will not be able to transfer to another registrar for 60 days, apart from a transfer back to the original registrar, in cases where both registrars so agree or where a decision in the dispute resolution process so directs.

If you DO NOT WANT the transfer to proceed, then please don't respond to this message.

If you have any questions about this process, contact us by email at [email protected], or by phone at (480) 505-8877.

Regards,
GoDaddy.com, Inc

Now - This has somewhat confused me because a) I don't have a Godaddy account so why I would need to click on the links above I have no idea and b) I thought he had to wait for me to initiate the domain transfer and send him the EPP code to start everything off?.

Any advice appreciated. :)

That email is his registrar (Godaddy) asking you, the current registrar, if you'd like to transfer the domain over to them.

However he'll definitely need the EPP code - without that any transfer attempts will fail.

Ta m8, appreciate the advice. I've just checked and yeah, the domain in question is indeed unlocked. So I'll email the fella the EPP code and wave bye-bye to the domain in question.
