Absolutely had enough of Barclays!!!

Keen to transfer to a different bank. Anyone done it? Is it a smooth transition? Don't want any disruptions in accessing my money/ to standing orders/ direct debits.

Any particular bank that you would recommend?

Thanks!

Perfectly smooth using the switching service. I have never had issues with Natwest, but First Direct come highly recommended customer service wise, and pay a bonus for switching.

Ah thanks will look into first direct.

"Metro" bank rate highly and they are open till late most days. Shame there aren't many of them around

Just switched to First Direct via the switching service. Was smooth with the only issue being that my employer was not informed of the change when I was assured they would be.

Must be noted that even though they were not, any payments would be forwarded on for 13 months post original account closure :)

I thought it was easy enough before this switching service was introduced. My switch included multiple standing orders and direct debits and I didn't have problems with any of them when doing it myself.

Don't most banks offer to switch all your DD and other payments over for you anyway without using the switching service?

I remember Santander pushing it a few years ago.

I did it a couple of weeks ago from barcleys to Santander. Like you I'd had enough of Barclays, terrible bank, no features to the account and the customer service in branch was atrocious. It's gone smoothly enough, all payments transferred to the new account, I've noticed they even trancferred the details of folks I'd transferred money to with my online banking. Do it mate :)

I am currently moving from Halifax to First Direct, my planned move is on the 12th of this month.

The customer support has been second to none, and the information pack provided tell you everything you need to know. First direct is also part of the HSBC group too. :)

I only found out about them from here, as I asked about a bank move about a month ago lol.
