Transferring data from Android to PC

Hi guys,

As above. It used to be so simple, hopefully still is and it's just me - I swear it never used to be this difficult!

So, I'm trying to copy about 30GB of data, mainly media, some files/folders/zips from my PC to my Android phone. I've tried several, decent (UGreen/Anker/Baseus) cables, which establish a connection but usually end up failing or timing out etc. I've tried different USB (Type-C) ports and the same issues persist. And it happens with my tablet too, so I know it's not my phone.

I've just bought a dedicated data cable (10GB) because I appreciate that my cables might be highly rated for charging but maybe not data? That arrives Monday.

My work around for now has been to connect a flash drive to my PC, copy the data to that and then copy it to my phone - and visa versa. Seems a bit long winded though.

Thoughts?
 
You can transfer files to and from Windows to your phone using Phone link.

There is a setting that enables you to use File Explorer to navigate and transfer files as if it was connected to your computer.

Select Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mobile devices > Manage devices - then toggle "Show mobile device in File Explorer"

Edit: I think I was wrong Phone Link is not required its just requires Bluetooth built into windows.

Windows 11 has in built tools to just transfer over WiFi network I thought?

Allows sync of folders etc.

It's so simple I never even given it a thought after setting it up.
 
Large amounts of data transfers with android devices are always a bit flakey. A 10gbps cable will only make a difference if the phone is USB 3.0 which many aren't.

I now just use network sharing for moving files. Either set up a shared folder on your windows PC and access it from the phone or enable a shared folder on your phone and access it from your windows PC.

I use solid explorer as my file manager of choice on android, it lets me access my PC shared folders. WebDAV FS is what I use on my tablet, I access it through any web browser on any other device.
 
Is this the PC in the sig? A few years back there was USB issues with AM4 boards, but that was mostly fixed with a BIOS and chipset update. I haven't had issues moving media files between PC and phone over USB.

Alternatively, I have used Solid Explorer's FTP feature with Window's Explorer to copy some files over network.
 
Sometimes I have connectivity issues with the USB ports on the front of my case. The trick I use to clean them out, is to fold a small piece of paper up a few times so it can easily be inserted (not forced) into the USB port. Then I soak the paper in contact cleaner and push it in and out of the port a few times. To finish off, I spray inside the port with contact cleaner and give it a minute or so to dry before using it. This method almost always resolves connection issues with USB ports and it shouldn't damage the port if you're sensible.
