It will probally take you longer to setup than just letting the 100base network copy while you sit back with a bottle of beer and wait.
But... here you are
Take your crossover cable. (Or plug two ethernet cables into that "crosover box" you mention).
The PC with the iTunes on it we will call PC number one.
The PC who wants to copy the files we will call PC number two.
Now sit on PC number one.
Enter the control panel.
Locate Network Connections
Locate your Ethernet card
Right click and select Properties from the menu
Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)
Press the Properties button
Now fill in the IP address as
10.0.0.11
Fill in the Subnet mask as
255.255.255.0
Can leave the rest blank.
Hit OK everywhere.
Now sit on PC number two
And repeat the above steps
This time use the IP address of
10.0.0.12
Same subnet mask of
255.255.255.0
Sit back on PC number one
Using Windows Explorer, go to your iTunes folder (in your Music folder).
Right click the folder and select "Sharing and Security" from the menu
Turn on the sharing, leaving things at default.
Use the default name of "iTunes".
Once you have the share setup,
sit on PC numebr two again and bring up the Run... prompt
type in....
\\10.0.0.11\itunes and hit OK
You should now see your folder, and be ready to copy.
If you have problems at this stage.... I need to know what you were asked. What was the error message. Are you using XP Home or Pro. And have to disabled any desktop firewalls. What brand name are your firewalls? (Microsoft ones don't count)
Note: While your PC is setup like there, there will be no internet access. Also windows networking is unlikely to work properlly so don't be surprised you can't use the PC's Windows Network Name or My Network Places, etc
Once everything has copied. To put your computers back as they were, just set the TCP/IP Address to "Obtain an IP Address automatically"
Ask if you need any step clarified.
