My old rig has a 120gb ide hard drive which contains all my music/photos etc that need to be transferred onto my new rig. However, the usb ports dont work on my old pc and it doesnt have firewire. PLus burning all the files to cd would take a millenia, so I was wondering is it possible to hook my old ide hard drive to my new rig, and transfer the files internally? I'm not sure if this would be advisable as it would have my OS on it etc, going from XP32 to Vista 64. I suppose buying a new PCI card would be the better option? Any thoughts appreciated.

does the new hd have more than 1 partition ? if you havent used it then it wont have.
if it does then just connect it up(doesnt take long) and copy the files to the partition that doesnt contain the OS or the partition that the new OS wont be using.

if the hd hasnt been used or doesnt have any partitions then just disconnect old hd and insert new hd.....install your new OS. then stick old hd in along side new hd and copy the files across and remove old hd when done.
