I have a laptop currently, and Am getting a Desktop soon.

But i have around 30gb of data on my laptop, which i want on the desktop.

Now How can i do this , easily and cheap! (meaning no burning to discs etc)

exterman hard drive
usb flash drive (have to do it in a few stages, depending on how big your drive is)
package such as "transfer my pc"

I'd go with one of the first 2, because transfer my pc is one use and costs around £30, it's mainly for transferring settings rather than files. And an external HDD and a large usb stick are both very useful and re-useable.

EXternal HD would probs be fastest, but do it most cheaply use a crossover cable (you'd probs have to leave it for a few hours while the files transfer.

I recommend you get a usb flash drive to do it, 8GB or 16GB drives are getting very cheap now, if you look/Play around.

The usb drive will be handy afterwards to store stuff on and for future transfers for any reason, a good investment if you ask me.

It won't take you long to transfer the files from your laptop to your desktop pc, if you get a 16GB usb drive, you can do it in 2 transfers, it's usually pretty quick.

I usually remove the hdd from my laptop and directly connect it to my media server or desktop pc. If it’s a sata 2.5" it just plugs right in :)

With my dell notebook its simply 2 screws and the drive is out, saves a lot of time if I need to transfer 100gb+ from my laptop as sata drive to drive is super fast.
:)

If you cant get hold of a external drive the above is always an option

id chose network them, for a couple of quid, you get the quickest means of transfering data. im sure you will have an ethernet cabel lying around somewhere.
