OK, well I'm planning to make the switch from PC to Mac and I'm after some advice to ensure that the switch is as smooth as possible.

I'm looking at buying a MacBook Pro in the next few weeks. However I'm going to have to dual boot it and install windows as I need that to run some of the programs I use for University work. I'll be mainly using the Mac OS though.

Is there any particular tips with regards to transferring documents or is it simple enough to transfer them on to an external HD and copy them over?

With regards to programs will I need to buy a new MS Office package, or can I use my current disc?

Any advice will be appreciated :)

Standard transfer via an external hard drive (NTFS is readable by OSX) is very straightforward and simple to do.

Bootcamp will easily sort out your dual booting.

You will need a different license for mac office, otherwise you can use iworks or open office, which is okay for word equivalent but the excel is poor at best functionality wise.

Seriously, get parallels 6 and install windows on that.

Install Windows via bootcamp and then you get parallels, you'll be able to access windows office on OSX desktop so no need to buy a new version of office. It's what I do as I need windows in a VM for some programs that only work in Windows.
