Transferring my DVD collection to HTPC

I am also interested in this, But so many people say so many different programs.

I want a program that I put a DVD in and it copies it to a file, simple as that.

No fancy buttons, no having to worry about this and that setting, which one is simple to use and even better if free.

I already have Handbrake for strategic iPod Touch purposes, so i'll use that with Make-MKV to make the best use of my time. That way i can queue the ripping overnight and such.

Oh and NAS Raid 1 to keep things nice and safe.

Cheers guys :)

Well that would be to just copy the contents of the disc to a file. As already mentioned though it takes up more HDD space.

Sorry but nothing looks cooler than flicking through an HTPC media screen to pick a flick, TV prog or music! Good on you for wanting to do this, well worth it in the end!

As has been suggested, extract the contents onto your drive and encode with DVD Decrypter. Most rippers have a queue system which means you can just leave it chugging happily away.

Some good info on Doom9

I remember about 5 years ago my mate decided to backup his DVD collection (must have been close to 1000 disks) and he basically begged, borrowed and built as many PC's as he could and took him weeks and weeks but it was certainly worth it. His electric bill was unbelievable...... although saved some on central heating due to the heat generated!

I'd go the NAS route for backup.
