I am considering creating a 2TB Raid on a Asus Blitz Formula probablt RAID 10 or 5.

My question is, if i decide to update my motherboard will i need to reformat this Raid on the new board?

I currently use a highpoint ide raid card which i have transferred from machine to machine with all data intact. Of course this may not be as easy with the card?

Are you intending to use the card or the motherboards onboard RAID controller?

You should only have to reinstall the RAID if you are changing the RAID controller.

I was hoping to use the motherboards controller as my Highpoint is IDE. So it sounds like I will have to rebuild the RAID which would be creat a single point of failure in the Motherboard.

Is there any performance gains from using a dedicated RAID card?

I assume you're switching from IDE to SATA? I'm pretty sure you'll need to re-build going from the IDE card to the Intel SATA RAID controller.

And yeah a dedicated card will give better results, tho decent ones can be quite expensive.

Tbh this question would be better suited to the Hard Drives forum as they'll have a good bit of knowledge on the subject.

Intel seems to be pretty good about carrying over an array created on 1 Intel controller to a later 1.
