Transformer for cement mixer - help needed please

While this is a job that i would normally say go right ahead and do, i reckon you would be best asking someone in person who is more "minded" toward this kind of thing.

Not knowing cable types or how to wire that up is something that is fairly obvious to someone minded toward electrics, and the fact you are asking these questions i feel is a recipe for disaster.

Surely you have a friend or something who is technically minded who could connect this for you? :)

It's not that I'm not minded towards such things, and if I knew which wire to go to which pin I'd be perfectly happy doing it myself, I've just never used one of these schuko connectors and finding info about them online is not really proving hugely helpful.

Had a chance over the weekend to open up the motor housing and have a look to see what's inside.

After a lot of research on Friday, it seems the connector on the mixer is a French connector, differing from a schuko in that the French connector has an earth pin.

Looking inside there are three wires as you can see below:

I also found the details of the motor:

By the looks of things it should be fine for running off the mains with a 13amp plug.

My only question is concerning the colour of the wires, the earth is obvious, the blue would be the neutral. but why is the live black???

The colour coding inside appliances always varies, it can be anything appliance to appliance, especially on old ones like that.

Its just a 600w 230v50hz AC motor. Absolutely fine to power off a standard wall outlet here, it'll only draw about 3A :)

That's what I was hoping, should be a simple job wire in a new power cable with a plug.

Being only 3A I should be fine with pretty much any power cable shouldn't I?

Having finally had a chance to open up the mixer better, I have discovered that there is a dead capacitor inside:

Obviously I need to replace this but I'm not 100% certain about what I'm looking for, would this be suitable?

The capacitor that's currently in the mixer only has two spade connectors, the one I've linked has 4 but mentions its a universal one for lots of different uses, so I'm guessing that won't be a problem?

If all else fails, do what we did and replace the motor with an old washing machine motor. :p
