Transistors importance?

It's probably a capacitor, if you mean what I think you mean. They're mostly used to regulate the voltage on the board, so you might be lucky and come to no harm - however if you start seeing problems then at least you know what the cause was :p
 
i knocked one of those small transistors (i think they're called) off my 7800GT, is this going to affect anything?

your talking about the tiny square things underneath on the card eh (i think they are resistors)?

id imagine everything is there for a reason, possibly to regulate the voltage id imaging your card will be unstable now if it even does power up still

maybe put a tiny spek of solder on the two contacts where the resistor/surface mounted cpacitor used to be just so the electrical circuit is still continuous or something like that
