Transport Tycoon Deluxe

i know this is probably asking too much, but could someone video the first 10-15 minutes, id like to see how you all manage to make money so quickly

yes thats the same as my drawing, the signals on the top line only let the train go from west to east, the signals on the bottom line only let it go east to west as they are unidirectional signals (one way only)

you seem to want to put dualdirection signals (lets trains go both ways down the same line) which you can't do its impossible to get it to work.

Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh. I get ya now. Would I be correct that you force the train down the correct 'lane' with these one way signals?

If you want to make a shed load early (with OpenTTD).. just make a huge train go the whole length of the map (1000 odd tiles long).. my train in 1963 takes about a year to get from one end to the other but does make £165k when it gets there :p

If you want to see some strange ideas I have for train routes, grab a look at the save file you'll see here:

http://www.paulgraydon.co.uk/ttd

In particular, look at the two oil runs on the top right and top left lengths of the map.

edit: Oh and for the record:

The top left track is excessive, it doesn't really need two runs for as far as it has them, I was curious and testing something. The top right oil run is a little more practical, much fewer 'dual tracks' but you'll notice it runs reasonably efficiently, and has room for growth, which I'll be working on shortly, adding in a few more oil runs, and then whacking out a goods run from that refinery.

hmmm, ok then.

Well that explains the reason then, if you have only 2 signals, and you have one train halfway between them, the second train wont start going until that section is clear, by having loads, it keeps a steady flow.

does THAT make sense?

yes, and thats what all the pictures show ;)

Yes.

One way signals only let trains pass in the direction they are facing away from, trains cannot pass them if facing the wrong way.

Shared track (two-way) lines only work if they are dedicated lines (i.e. only from A to B, maybe with a passing station in between)

I'll upload my save tonight.. it's quite a small network compared to my normal size, but this time I didn't go all crazy on expansion like I normally do and have the map flooded with rail, so should be easy enough to understand.

Where is that scenario from? I wouldn't mind playing that from scatch.. Did you just make a new one in the scenario editor?

a question about signals. i have this layout here

ttd5kv.jpg

i have one train that stays on the left hand rail, going in both directions, and another one that is on the left hand rail, starting from the bottom right, but then i want it to switch to the right hand rail. what signals should i use to prevent the left hand rail train going through when there is a train trying to cross onto the right hand rail?

Just put one surrounding the junction like this
# = Signals

#-\--#
#--\-#

i.e. completely bracketing the crossover tracks.

I've just started playing this game and i have a question.

I have a 2 track station at a coal mine and a two track station at a power station. They are linked by a single track. Both stations are setup in the picture shown here [Fig. 1]

The distance between the two stations is such that by the time my train has travelled from the coal mine to the station, the coal mine has more coal waiting. Therefore i want to add a second train to the same route. Is this possible on a single track? I need to contruct a passing loop of some sort with signals so that the trains will know how to avoid each other. My only problem is that i've no idea how to get this to work.

If anyone can help me out, i'd appreciate it.

I have done but i'm still not entirely sure of what to do. I need an idiots guide to the game really. I dont even know how standard signals work, so i cant figure out things for myself.

You'll need a passing loop - that is an 'extra' section of track to run parrallel to your existing track that is long enough to hold one of your trains whilst the other passes.

Code:
------------------S------------------------S---------------------
                \ /
                 \S------------------------S/

Try and imagine that as track.. obviously they join where the slashes point to the hyphens, and the S's represent signals :)

I cant build stuff in openTTD

I can in normal tycoon deluxe though..

Anyone got any ideas, as i dont see it as a bug in the readme?
edit: nvm, just being noobish :p

Thanks a lot. What kind of signals do i need tho? Just standard ones or pre-signals or something?
