Hi there, just wondering what the safest way to transport a pretty big engine is.

The car i'm intesnding to trasnport it in, is a 98 punto. Spacewise I'm sure it will fit with the seats down, and plenty of plywood, and carpet to help make sure it doesn't ruin the car. I would pump the tyres up max, but will it be ok to drive with it in the back? I don't want my suspension collapsing or something.

The only other way I think I could get it back to my house would be hiring a small van, but I should think there would be a rather hefty deposit doing that sort of thing?

Anyone got any ideas on whether it would be ok?

hire something like a berlingo van with a sheild between the rear and the front, as above, if you crash into something that is going to fly forwards and take your head off

If you could get the weight behind your seat rather then right at the back...it will make the front end really light on that car ( I had one).

No tow hook ??

No tow hook on my car no, its either getting my dad to drive me down with a trailer on the land rover, or hire a small van.

I suppose securing it is the biggest issue really. having a crash wouldn't be good. I was just wondering if I was going to be able to do it myself. I'll just have to get my dad to help me out.

200kg? Thats a light load, even a fiat punto should easily cope with that. I wouldn't worry at all. As people said, it's the equiv of 2 fatties or 3 blokes in the back.

Word of advice here: Have the tooling ready to take the tailgate off the back of the car. Without doing that, you will find it VERY tricky to get it in (just how tricky depends on the engine lift!).

I'd suggest leaving the electricals attached and simply lay the tailgate on the roof whilst you lift it in.

Where is the engine going to, out of interest?

I've got an engine sat in my shed at the moment. It's strapped to a pallet and seems to be pretty secure. When someone eventually buys it, I was just going to put the whole pallet in the back of my 940 and take it to them.
