Travelling alone

Any recommendations on where are good places to go?

I've got about 5 weeks off soon (summer hols, work at a school) and fancied doing a bit of travelling. I like the idea of Hong Kong and wondered if that's suitable for someone on their own?

Help please.

I do all my international travel alone.

USA, Canada, Australia (via Singapore), Germany. Never had any trouble with any of them, except for all the single supplements everywhere, which hurt, badly.

Take care of yourself and avoid known trouble spots, and you'll generally be fine.

If I had any money spare, I would have offered to join you in the adventure. But I don't so I wont. Have fun wherever youre goiung though.

Ooh, Canada..nice. Always wanted to go there. Worthwhile going for just week or 10 days though?

Thanks mate. You're right..i dont expect it to be cheap but i've saved a bit up and might explore a little.

Get expensive, but it depends on whether you meet people en route and join up with them for a while. Depends on where you're heading I guess.

I'd like to go travelling for a few months

Though having just finished uni i'm slightly in debt! I'm considering working for a year or so to get a bit of money, then going somewhere for a few months (possibly on my own).

Does anyone know of any sites/forums for getting information on this?

i have family in canada and apparently Toronto is not a nice area to stay in

but we are going to Mississauga which is 30 min drive and its a nice area.

flights are cheap at the moment too! we are going for 2 weeks so we get to see a lot but not rush it

also to spend time with our family

If I'm doing intercontinental travel (as Canada would have course be), then I have a policy of not going for less than two weeks. It's quite some distance for a week, and not cheap either.

Nice place though. I'd highly recommend the Toronto/Niagara Falls area and anywhere from the southern end of the Canadian Rockies westward.

O/T I wish that was true for all jobs in education. I'm starting working in September as an ICT technician and I'm full time, not term time. So while all the students and teachers are off in summer, xmas or halloween, I'll be in work.

I'll get the standard holiday allowance as most other people get, and be encouraged to take them during the school holidays.

That's harsh. That's exactly the job i do and get all the holidays etc...but if work needs to be done i can do overtime during the holidays. Good luck with the new job!
