I'm heading down to the NIA in March 2011 for an event. What is the best way to travel there?

Plane, train or automobile?

Looked at train and plane prices. Both come in at around £160 give or take a tenner.

Petrol would be roughly the same.

Anyway to get the rates cheaper?

Suggestions are welcome.

Plane, book in advance, its like £70 return I think. (I went the opposite way in April return ticket, £160???), i flew Flybe.

It's only like 1 hour flight, train is 15 min from New Street Station, out of Victoria Square exit and it is 15 min walk from the station to the NIA.

You can book train tickets up to 12 weeks in advance. If you know exactly when you will be travelling you will find much cheapness in fares. It's all down to allocation so book as early as you can.

Train every time TBH. Saves you having to get to and from the airport, go through security and faf around for a while. There are plenty of direct trains that get you from central Glasgow to central Birmingham in less than 4 hours. Sit back, relax and watch the world go by (or even call someone, watch a film etc...).

What times are you leaving? It may be a little more for the train but it would be so much more relaxing and simple...
