Travelling to Uni Interviews

Hey guys.

Just received 2 letters asking me to attend an interview for my application to both Newport and Swansea Uni's.

They're a week apart but I'm going to try to see if I can change the date on one of them so I can go to the both in one trip.

My question is this....

Is there any sort of help with travel costs to these interviews? So soon after Christmas, it'll be difficult for me to afford to be going to potentially 5 different Uni's, 4 of which aren't here in N.I.

I don't particularly expect there to be, but it would be a huge help.

Thanks.

Do you mean an interview? Or do you mean a UCAS day? I suspect the latter. In which case you can probably get out of going to them if you just e-mail them and explain. If you like you could ask them for money to cover travel costs.

Your best bet is contacting each faculty and asking them. I'm not sure we are going to be of much help!

Just thought that perhaps if there was someone who received help towards the travel they could advise on how to go about seeking it.

It's an interview where I am to present a portfolio.

Are you serious?

About which part? :p

There are only really 2 Uni's in Ulster. One, I've applied to, and one doesn't offer the course.

It's not THAT much of a surprising thing to wonder about, is it? :p

What course you going for? +400 if you are planning on getting out of NI

Graphic Design.

Applied to Uni Of Ulster, John Moores Liverpool, York College, Swansea Met, Uni of Wales

Queens have 'Creative Media' but I felt a more specialised course would be more beneficial to me.

Would definitely recommend getting out of NI. Im doing CS at queens, never heard of the creative media course, is it new? If its part of the EEECS faculty then the course should be pretty well respected industry wise. But if its new expect to be raped.

My mate did graphic design at Uni of Teeside and got himself into a games firm straight after, not sure what their reputation is like on the whole though.

*More to the point a friend of mine tried to get help from manchester for getting to interviews and she was shiftly denied. The best they would do is move around the interview if she had problems getting over. This was 3years ago though so maybe now its more common?

I seem to remember a note on one of my UCAS interview letters saying the university is unable to cover expenses for travel costs. That sort of implies other universities might.

Perhaps you could try asking your college for help, you never know.

I had an interview with Newcastle (I come from N.I.) and they had a policy where they would pay a certain amount based on how far you had to travel. Think I received £25-50, can't really remember. Definitely something to ask the specific uni about.

Newport... Don't go the place is disgusting!

Every time I've gone to a uni for an interview they have offered to reimburse for travel costs. If that be train ticket price or x amount of p per mile driven. Just ask.

I'm pretty sure some Universities will help you get there - just need to ask. I think York offered that when I applied there last year.

I doubt you'll be able to get any help with travel costs at all. Hopefully they may be able to move the days around to make it more convenient for you, but it all depends when the other UCAS days are, if there aren't any that coincide you may be out of luck.

overall rep is rubbish because its up north and if you believe the media is right in the middle of the worst place to live in the uk

they are the only none red brick uni to win university of the year... somehow

and its one of the best places to go for games stuff so they have good industry links
