I booked a Travelodge last night and some how ( god only knows how) i booked the wrong one, I booked Tewkesbury instead of Worcester. So after immediately realising my mistake i called their call centre and explained what i had done and could they kindly transfer my booking to Worcester.

"No i cant do that, i was told...............as you have booked a "saver room" you cant have a refund either"

So i explain i dont want a refund i just want the booking transfered to the Worcester Lodge, i also explained that i also understood the Worcester Lodge was almost £30 cheaper but im willing to take the transfer without havng the difference refunded.

"erm cant do that either" i was told

So i enquire as to how i am suposed to get around this with out losing my £69 for the two rooms i have just booked and then have to pay for two more rooms ?

I was told that i had to email Customer services and explain to them what had happend and they my be able to transfer the booking for me subject to availability - ok i said so how long for CS to get back to me, 3 - 7 days im told.

So now here i am waiting for someone to email me with a yes or no - i cant believe that Travelodge can not tranfer a booking to another hotel over the phone. I must be nieve to think that the conversation would have went like this

Me - " hello ive made a mistake with my booking can you help me, ive booked the wrong hotel by mistake

TL - " of course sir which hotel did you want to book and i will transfer it for you, you do realise tho' that as you have booked saver rooms i wont be able to refund you the difference ?"

Me - " yes i understand, please transfer the booking to Worcester please"

TL - " no problem, i have done that for you"

What could be so difficult..........?

It's a saver rate. It's non refundable and you are told this at the time of booking. The reason why it is so cheap is because its non refundable. If you want the flexibility to change your mind and make mistakes without penalty, book a flexible room rate.

The saver rate is only for those who know exactly what they want and are happy to accept once its bought, its bought.

I understand there policy and was aware at time of booking, no one is to blame but me for the wrong booking and that i understand. The thing that is bugging me is the fact that i rang up immediately, the worcester hotel is actually £30 cheaper so by me being transfered to there would mean i have paid double for them rooms as i wouldnt be entiled to any refund, plus they still have the rooms at Tewkesbury to resell at the price i paid.

I just honestly thought that they would be a little more accomodating as i dont want to cancel and i still want rooms with them.

Well i guess i will just have to wait and see just how good there customer service is and how much they value their customers.

The thing is 4 of us are cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats for charity and although Tewkesbury would still be ok, Worcester would have been a lot more ideal for us in terms allowing us to cycle further before stopping for the day.

Who knows, i may be lucky but i guess it could be worse - i could have booked a hotel 200miles away and not 15miles away:D

I guess at least we still have somewhere to stay for the night

Their booking software was made in india from a spec written by somebody who doesn't do the bookings job and wrote it to 'what should happen'. He didn't need to ask the poor oiks on the phone because he's a manager and they are oiks.

Due to a poorly written contract it will now cost them the same again to make this small modification so the result is you get fobbed off.

(This is speculation, but I bet it's not far off)

surely you have a right to cancel this no matter what? they cant charge you for service you havent taken after you have given them plenty of notice?
Well one for 'The List' thanks for the heads up! :)

a service that hasnt been provided yet. Wheres the cooling off period?

Why do you think you get a cooling off period with everything?

Why dont you go and book a non-flexible airline ticket and then try getting a full refund on that - hint, you wont manage that either.
