Long story short ive got to go hospital for a treadmill run to prove that my heart can take the rigourse exercise that the Army will put me through.
All i know so far is that the treadmill run will be hard to make the heart pump fast and to get a reading on there machine to see if everythings tickty boo.
Has anyone else done one of these, how hard was it, does the treadmill go really fast and how long will the test be?

Someone else was asking about this earlier (actually a few months ago).

If I remember rightly the army fitness test (PFT) requires that you run 2.4km is under 14 minutes, but you should be looking for about 10.30 for your in service tests.

Edit: Just realised that may not be what you were asking, but it is what you should be aiming for.

It'll just be a standard heart test - 60 minutes, starting fairly easy and pushing you harder in stages.

If your fit you'll have no trouble, fat old people do these :)

12mins 44s :) well in navy atleast

you'll be pushed depending on how high your heart gets at certain speeds etc I would think.
There wont be a set speed, it will be be deduced by how your heart reacts to what you're already doing

It starts off nice and gentle (stroll) but gets progressively harder both in speed and incline so don't blow it in the first 15 mins.

Good luck

I should be alright ive got plenty of pros such as:
Im 22 (still got my youth)
go running twice a week
gym 3 times a week

If i fail this im gonna be gutted:p

Is it that much? I haven't looked at the PJFT test stuff in ages but I swear it was less than that.

:edit: Oh yeah it was the RM's, of course they're different.

Personally I think that time is way way too easy to achieve. I did it in 9 minutes 30 seconds after two weeks very light jogging from years of no excercise :\

I'm sure they are expected to go through much more before and after the run! :p

No, that is the only physical test you have to pass to successfully join the RN, Army or RAF as a recruit as far as I'm aware.

The RM's is shorter (9mins 45, still way too long really), and they also have to pass a selection weekend which is hard as nails.

jesus I struggle at it to be honest, but im a BAD runner. Iv been gyming it for a while but mostly doing cardio due to having to cope with sores and what not from running.
Dont forget its just to weed out people that will definately have no chance in basic, anyone who cant physically hack it will definately be weeded out in the 9weeks basic training.

it's a stupidly low pace to be fair. also i believe they check for irregularities such as murmurs in the hospital, so even if you breeze through the exercise element they can weed you out on medical grounds.

...

So all you have to do is a run? I was expecting something like a run, press-ups, other forms of torture type exercises and then a final run or whatever.

:o

For officer selection you have to pass a certain amount of press ups, sit ups and a certain level in the bleep test (this is RAF). The Regiment and the RM's are different I think simply due to their combat heavy nature.

How many kilometres does this test equate to roughly?

2.4.

Same for navy, cant be bothered to fish out my book but theres set amount of different exercises which you are required to do too.

Had a thump at the 2.4km on the treadmill today after you said you could manage it a breeze after 2weeks jogging Zefan and I was cruising through it, then my ankle went :(

Iv got to work on my running technique to minimise the impact on it me thinks, though I think its much easier running at 11+ on treadmill than trying to run at 8.
Think i vastly underestimated myself with it so I think its going to be a walkover when my ankles are built up a little more :)
