Hey guys,

any of you use a treadmill in a flat?

I am a bit skeptical about the flooring and causing cracks at the wall joints etc., however my building is brand new build from scratch.

Any ideas/recommendations?

cheers

I don't see a problem. The only thing to consider is those living below you who will hear you thudding on the treadmill.

They are noisy tbh. The fact its a new build will mean the walls and ceilings will be even less sound proof :D

another thing you most likely havnt thought of is the heat generated by running on a treadmill.
I hired one for a month in my old flat at uni - i had a HUGE bedroom and plenty of space for the thing, but when running on it I was pretty uncomfortable as my room got very hot very fast with it, even with windows wide open, there wasnt too much airflow which made it so much more effort. To be honest the gyms iv been to have been bad for airflow too...
Best bet is run outside if you can, its more enjoyable and you can speed up a little when you want to cool down.

A decent treadmill will cost you the price of a half decent gym membership tbh.

You could perhaps put it on some form of rubber matting to deaden the noise somewhat but there is only so much you could do in terms of sound proofing really.

A gym membership as Morba suggests would give you significantly more options.

Don't bother in a flat unless you're on a ground floor and have neighbours that don't mind continual thudding for an hour or so. The noise these things make, even brand new are really bad.

As for working out in a hot room, I think it's great. I always love it when they turn off the air con at gym because it makes the work out so much more harder which benefits me so much.

I can see how it benefits some people so much more, our gym doesnt have any aircon need cardio machines, theres a few ceiling fans which tbh do not make a tiny bit of difference as they are to small, dont rotate v fast, and are few and far between..
I want to run on a treadmill to become a better runner, therefore running in the heat doesnt really do me any good, especially as when ill be doing the running it will be in the cold around christmas period.

thanks everyone for your comments. I will look into rubber mats. At the moment I do not have neighbours so sound is not a problem :p

Not sure when/if people will move in below me thought
