"Treble" and "Triple"

I would say 0 Treble 7 when referring to my old phone number but when referring to the marzocchi 888 fork I say triple 8.

Strange I guess.

Treble/Triple rolls off the tongue more or less easily depending on the sentence you are saying, hence why people say it different ways.

If playing darts I would use the term treble to describe a multiple.

Ahh but I think there should be a national law to pick and use a old neglected word and use it one day. I remember using Disjunct where the dutch team asked (they wanted to learn) and the older english guys admitted they had to look it up in a dictionary..

This and sporting acheivments I think are the only time I would use treble, but I would agree they are interchangeable, when referring to 3x at any rate

This, thinking about it the only time i would use treble is in a sporting reference. Darts, Football etc. Triple would be be normal conversation for 3x most commonly if repeating a phone number.
