Tree Stumps....

Aye, my dad recently pulled out a relatively small stump and that was a fairly hard job that took him most of a day to dig out, cut the roots he could reach and then lever out.

From memory there is something you can buy that you drill a large hole into the trunk, and pour the stuff into it and it helps speed up the rotting of the trunk? (I guess even just drilling a few half inch holes would do something similar).

Thanks, Assuming this would be similar to cutting hatch markings in top of the stump :)

going to go back out tomorrow, im Shattered lol :p

Apparently that stuff stops any plants growing in the nearby soil for 5-10 years.

Stump grinder is most effective way.

Depending on how wide the stumps are, you could carve out holes big enough to fit a smaller plant pot in and use them as decorative... things...

this is what my mother in law done.

drilled loads of hole's and put root killer in the hole's.

kill's the stump over time.

crosshatch the stumps with the chain, pour on creosote, red oil or deisel.

Removing the stumps is a massive effort.. it'll take a good half day to remove just one if the roots are particularly pervasive. Toughest job I ever had to do back when I did some tree surgeon work.

:)

Conifers don't grow back from old wood so you don't need to worry about that. You can buy stump killer from most diy shops. I usually just slice a load of gooves into the stump and let nature do the work for me. As has been said above removing the stump and roots can be a complete waste of time and effort, my advice would be to just worry about what is actually showing above ground.

Q: Did you shout "Timber"? tbh i would :D

rent out a digger!

or burn them & have a BBQ / or smoke some salmon :)

One of my mates had a huge tree that they took down in his back garden, he carved the stump into what can only be described as a wooden sofa. Looked absolutely fantastic. Still uses it at BBQs every so often :)
